This catalog was prepared to accompany the exhibition at the Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum in Tokyo from June 27 to September 6, 2015. The exhibition explored the relationship between Kyosai (1831- 1889) and Josiah Condor (1852- 1920). Josiah Condor was a British architect who was hired by the Meiji Japanese government as a professor of architecture for the Imperial College of Engineering and became architect of Japan's Public Works. He was a controversial figure in Japan because his teaching involved instructing young Japanese architects about the architecture in England and Europe. He was a prolific lecturer and author.
