Description:
Portland Maine: Thomas B Mosher, 1920. Burton wrote this poem in 1854, but only published it in 1880, in a tiny edition for his friends, adopting the persona of "F.B." or "Frank Baker." Since then it has been republished by many houses. Mosher printed several editions with different limitations, this designated as the Eleventh, and LIMITED to 1500 copies. This is a Very Good (Plus) copy, bound in gray paper boards with a banded vellum spine and paper label; yapped edges. Clean text; xvi, 125 pages, all rough-cut; frontis portrait of Burton; title page printed in red and black. Contains Swinburne's Elegy for Burton; interestingly, these pages are unopened. Really one of Mosher's nicest productions. A bit of darkening at the edges; else, a Fine copy. Issued with a tan cardboard slipcase, which is present but in rather delicate condition, with several splits; however, the case could easily be reinforced with Holland tape.. Limited. Hard Cover. Near Fine/No Jacket. 16mo - over…

Description:
New York: Knopf, 1924. Sir Richard Burton (1821-1890), an explorer, linguist, Orientalist, and certainly a master of disguise when he became the first European to visit the Holy City of Mecca. Burton claimed to be only the translator of this long poem, the "Lay of the Higher Law," but modern scholarship regards him as the author. This is a Very Good copy of the First Edition Thus, limited to 2040 copies (2000 for sale). 12 stunning wood engravings and other decorations by Willfred Jones. 135 pages, including Burton"s Notes. The binding resembles a batik cloth, with a blue cloth spine and gilt title. The text is clean and fresh. The corners are bumped, with the tips worn-through, and the head and foot of the spine are a bit frayed. No dustjacket. All in all, a decent copy of an attractively-produced and scarce title. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Limited.. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. Illus. by Willfred Jones.

Description:
New York: Hurst & Co., Publishers, 1888. Stevenson's iconic tale was first published simultaneously in England and America in 1886. This is a Very Good copy of an American pirate edition (there was yet no copyright protection). There is no date, but certainly close to the time; there is a contemmporary (1889) presentation inscription on the FFEP. This edition is uncommon to scarce. Decorative cloth binding; perhaps originally maroon, now brown. Fancy decorations in black with a gilt label on the spine. The front cover is decoratively stamped in black and identified as the "Arlington Edition." Clean text; 172 pages, with a 15-page catalog in the rear. Interestingly, the rear paste-down is also an advert, but for pianos, not books. The cheap paper is starting to tan; the pirates seem to have put all their production values into rather decorative bindings, not the textblock. Mildly bumped; some fading around the edge of the front cover; fade/spotting on the rear cover.. Later Printing.…
