Description:
London: Oxford University Press, 1928. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good/Very good. A classic study of Keats's annotations in his copies of Shakespeare and a foundational work in the study of marginalia. "Spurgeon describes the two texts of Shakespeare marked by Keats, transcribes (mostly accurately) the markings on five plays, lists what she considers to be parallels between The Tempest and Endymion, and presents a fondly appreciative Introductory Essay on the links between the writers. Her book is now difficult to obtain..."-R. S. White, Keats as a Reader of Shakespeare (1987). viii, 178 pages, with 20 plates of facsimiles of Keats's marginalia. First edition (first printing). A very good copy in brown cloth, in a very good dust jacket with a short snag at the top of the front panel, tanning to the spine and edges, and chipped at the spine ends, else very good. Scarce in jacket.

Description:
(N.-pl.): Sponsored by Libbey-Owens-Ford Glass Company in Cooperation with the U.S. Government, 1944. Ephemera. Near fine. A World War Two-era homefront poster from private industry urging compliance with federal energy conservation goals through the purchase of consumer products (i.e., storm windows). Compared to official government posters, business propaganda posters are rather scarce. This private poster, compared to official US posters, is also much more sexist than government-issued pieces. The central image shows a rear view of a woman in a suggestive pose bending at the waist while wearing a short skirt. Old man winter futilely blows cold air outside her window. A toddler crouches at her feet. 13-1/2 by 20 inches. Near fine. Never folded. Ships flat. This is an original World War II poster, not a reproduction.

Weaverville, CA: Journal Print, 1906. Ephemera. Fine. A promotional card, illustrated with a half-tone portrait, of an unsuccessful candidate for superintendent of schools for mountainous Trinity County in far northern California. This card most likely dates from before 1911, when women won the right to vote in California. Katherine "Kittie" or "Kitty" O'Neil was born in California in 1861 to Irish immigrant parents. She began teaching at the Indian Creek public school near Weaverville in 1881 (see Pacific School and Home Journal, May 1881). In 1904, Kittie was listed as the president of the County Board of Education for Trinity County (see 1904 edition of the California Educational Directory). By 1910, Kittie had disappeared from the O'Neil siblings' household and I could find no trace of her after that, suggesting she had either married or died by…
