Actually, the review slip gives the publication date as April 16, 1951; the book is apparently the U.K. edition with a Coward-McCann imprint (the copyright page has a 1950 date and "Printed in Great Britain"). Near fine in a very good+ dust jacket. The top edge of the pages is slightly dusty and has one tiny stain. The yellow jacket is flimsy and in nice shape except for browning on the spine, along the top edges and around the flaps. A relatively scarce item, especially in a pre-publication state.

The cloth is a little darkened, with a bit of rubbing at edges. Lower corners are slightly bumped. Spine ends are just a touch worn. Nice, tight copy with green patterned endpapers, frontispiece illustration with tissue guard, and a Hawaiian Glossary; 399 pages. No names or other markings in the book.

The jacket has slight edgewear and a small spine label with tape over it at the bottom of the spine. Long inscription by the author on the front endpaper dated in 1935 in Tulsa.

The author grew up in Benton County, Arkansas and eventually moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma. Includes photocopies of a number of photographs; numerous short (3 - 5) pages) family histories; pages in book not consecutively numbered.
