UNCLE HANSI'S WWI PATRIOTIC TRIBUTE TO ALSACE & FRANCE - A BEAUTIFULLY ILLUSTRATED HISTORICAL VOLUME FOR CHILDRENHere is one of France's Sumptuously Designed Historical Volumes for Children. Each of the 100 pages have beautiful color illustrations - full page or smaller color illus designed within the text by Hansi & Huen. Folio size with red edges- with decorated eps of flying birds in shades of gray & white. The front inner hinge is cracked but tight, a vertical newspaper clipping (2 1/2" x 4 1/2") has been pasted onto the center of the inside front cover's ep - dated Feb 15, 1915. Endpaper bottom edge has 3 neatly repaired closed tears, and very slight loss at the bottom corner of 1st few pages. Spine tips and corner rub, gilt on cover dulled - still a very good copy. Uncommon. May need extra postage depending upon destination or weight

A SCARCE LITTLE BLACK SAMBO AN OPERETTA FOR "JUVENILE VOICES" PUBLISHED BY J. FISCHER & BRO. FOR SCHOOL ENTERTAINMENTS.Music arranged and libretto written by Henry P. Cross. INSCRIBED BY CROSS dated 1937. Inscription is personal and a bit wacky. Written in 1936 - the 3 characters speak in stereotypical black dialect. Book's owner F.E. Cross wrote his name in pencil at top edge of cover. He was probably related to the author. There are 2 pages of advertising at the back of the book - for children's musical school plays. The back cover has illustrated advertising for "Peter Rabbit" and "Goldilocks and the Bears" Operettas - both by Henry P. Cross. The front cover is black over orange title & illustration of " Little Black Sambo". There are 2 small chips at the bottom edge and a crease. BEAUTIFUL COLOR ILLUSTRATIONS BY FERN BISEL PEAT FEATURING AN INGENIOUSLITTLE BOY WHO OUTSMARTS THE TIGERS bringing home butter for those delicious pancakes.This version of Bannerman's tale features a Southern black family- not portrayed with the usual racist dialect. Helen Bannerman's actual story is about an Indian family who where one would actually deal with tigers. Fern Bisel Peat depicts her characters as colorful rag dolls. The calico series was published right after the first edition. It is a thin, 8vo with colorful eps & illustrations. Patterned in calico-style paper over boards. This copy has very slight rub to 2 edge spots. VG condition of an uncommon title.

Scarce in the Dust Jacket(black interest) La TRIBU Arc-En-Ciel was written by famed performer, Josephine Baker together with her husband, Jo Bouillon. Colorful & Lively illustrations by Piet Worm. After the war, Josephine Baker adopted 12 young orphans of all races, religions and nationalities. She called them The Rainbow Tribe. Decorated eps. Book has some edge wear, top spine tip has some fray , o/w VG+. DJ back flap has a brown spot at bottom, 1" closed tear at spine top, a few small closed tears & 2 tiny chips at bottom edges. DJ is VG.

BEAUTIFUL COLOR ILLUSTRATIONS - FRENCH PATRIOTISMWritten and illustrated by L'Oncle Hansi (Waltz, Jean Jacques) this 1918 volume is set during WW! - is meant to inspire French patriotism against the German. Hansi's illustrations of Alsatian towns during the war are richly colorful and vivid. His plea for Alsace at the end of the book that Alsace will be beautiful when she is French and free...The book is internally VG - the covers have some soll, the spine has some fabric missing in 2 spots (at top/bottom), corners rubbed - so overall Good+. Uncommon Hansi title.

Agricultural detailed home-made journal in pen & ink - neatly handwritten in script. The drawings and charts are nice and neatly done as well. Originally this hardcover journal was blank and purchased at G. Laine , Librairie - Papeterie in Rouen, France.The papeterie's orig stamp is at bottom of front ep. Eps are grayUnknown author - from late 19th c. or early 20c. The condition is VG++ to fine for original manuscripts of this sort.

A lovely copy of the First Signed Limited Edition of which this is Number 315 of 525 copies signed by Rackham.These forty tales are illustrated by Rackham with 13 tipped-in color plates on lettered mounts, pictorial eps, and 43 b/ws. Each color plate is accompanied by a loose tissue gd (darkened).Corner bump & rub, light rub at spine hinge, spine has a few faded very small dark spots,inner front hinge was cracked but neatly repaired. Early Gotham Book Mart label on rear ep.Additional plate is VG++. The original envelope has partial splits at the ends but has been neatlyrepaired with archival mending tape. This very hard-to-find Limited Edition with the great Rackham illustrations is housed in a custom silk-lined, gilt lettered chemise and tan cloth slipcase. Rare to find it with extra signed plate &envelope.
