Illustrated with the author's color and black and white photographs and chapter-head vignettes. Phonetic Glossary of Maya words with English equivalents. The aging laminate-like material used for the binding was not of the sturdiest nature and is chipping at crown of spine and here & there on edges. This copy wanting the dust jacket.

Endpapers decorated with a 1930 New Orleans illustration also by Suydam. Extensive bibliography. Some shelf wear at spine ends and board tips. Previous owner bookplate and old Alabama bookseller ticket on free front endpaper. Faint ring from what might have been a coffee or tea cup is visible on front cover when book is held at a certain angle.

Blackwell's Oxford bookseller ticket and small inventory code sticker on front paste down. Permanent red ribbon page marker. VERY GOOD condition with just light shelf wear. Illustrated dust jacket GOOD only, with chips and edge nicks. Erosion with some loss at spine ends and flap fold points. Jacket now stowed safely in a new sheet of archival Brodart.

Publisher's brown cloth with black upper board lettering, 12mo, pp. x, 114. Endpaper map. FAIR-only with considerable shelf wear to board tips and particularly spine ends. A previous owner has written her name and 1938 in a small neat hand on the half-title page. Clean and unmarked internally. A nice reading or research copy wanting the dust jacket.

Publisher's side-stapled wrappers, octavo, pp. 48. Illustrations. Light shelf wear at crown of spine. A few nicks and short tears on wrapper edges. GOOD and sound but with a somewhat rumpled appearance from previous consultation. Protected now in a clear new Ultra-Pro display sleeve.

Done up nicely by the publisher in maroon cloth with spine lettering gilt, octavo, pp. xxviii, 461. Black and white illustrations.

Publisher's pictorial brick red cloth, octavo, pp. viii, 347, [1]. Previous free front endpaper gift inscription in a neat hand from Christmas 1918. Illustrated. This copy unique with newspaper clippings, photos, and other ephemeral items laid in at various places. Previous owner also taped newspaper "letters to the editor" on rear pastedown, above a quote from General Pershing that owner copied out. GOOD condition, with some foxing in text and shelf rubbing at spine ends and board tips.

Later printing, publisher's green cloth with black spine and upper panel lettering, small octavo, pp. 120 [121]. Illustrated by the Author. Light foxing on text block edges. Previous gift inscription on front pastedown from one family to another. Price-clipped dust jacket chipped and some erosion at spine ends and flap fold points. A few random nicks around perimeter.

Limited to 200 copies in blue wrappers, of which this is number 128, small quarto, pp. 38 plus colophon. Letters eulogizing Pulsifer on the occasion of his death. No location or publisher noted, but Portland, Maine, Bradford Press. A photo of Pulsifer is mounted on title page. Laid in is a copy of a typed sheet of correspondents, including Ethel Roosevelt Derby (Daughter of Teddy Roosevelt) and Katherine S. White (Mrs. E. B. White). We noted that there are more letters in the text than writers listed on the sheet, which caused us to wonder if there were perhaps a second sheet of correspondents originally, but now missing. A search of OCLC returned copies at Brown, Colby, Columbia, and University of Virginia. The copy at Columbia notes there are two sheets, but the copy at Brown states that it "lacks the (single) leaf identifying the correspondents."
