Hand-tinted (clothing and hair), with a facsimile of Las Cases's signature beneath. Sheet size is 29cm x 46cm / 11.5 x 18 inches. At lower right: "Lith de Delpech a Paris". At lower left: "Maurin (signature/monogram)". Foxing, but a fresh and attractive copy. Several varieties and sizes of these lithographs exist, with and without facsimile signatures. Paris: Laporte, [c.1779].. Engraved map, 9 x 7 inches (framed: 15 x 13.5 inches). Looks like some repair to right side, closed tears probably taped on verso. Attractively coloured, cartouche with savages in upper right. Plate number in upper right: "Pl. 23". Published in: "Atlas moderne portatif". (Paris: Laporte, 1778-1781).

Venice: Bortoli, 1764. Fifth Edition.. Original plain porous wrappers, stitched. Extensively illustrated with engraved music. Woodcut device on title. [88]pp. A very fresh, very good copy, uncut, in the original binding. An ancient, light stain to the outside of the upper spine. First published in 1708. Gasparini (1661-1727) was at one time one of the leading composers in Venice. He was musical director of the Ospedale della Pietà, where he employed Antonio Vivaldi as a violin master. This book is his treatise upon the harpsichord. All editions are scarce.

Amsterdam: P. Mortier, [c.1724]. . An engraving on laid paper, image size 21cm x 26cm, mounted on a large folio sheet measuring 33cm x 53cm. Light edge wear, a little darkening at upper right, a nice clean copy. Titled in French & Latin. Number "18" printed at lower right. Issued with the imprint of Pierre [Pieter] Mortier, Amsterdam; this was published in the third volume of the four-volume 1724 edition of Joseph Smith's "Britannia Illustrata, or Nouveau Theatre de la Grande Bretagne". Nicely executed, possibly the work of Johannes Kip. [This is an oversize item, and normal postage rates do not apply. Large framed artworks are sometimes available for pickup only.]

London: Sampson, Low, Boosey, Hurst, & Polidori, 1800.. 12mo. in sixes. 204pp. Full calf, spine ruled in gilt and lettered on a burgundy panel. Some wear to joints, lacking final blank, very good condition. Half-title leaf is present. Small decorative device on title, and tailpieces throughout. An uncommon edition of Voltaire's Henriade, published by Gaetano Polidori, who was the father of John William Polidori (physician to Lord Byron and author of The Vampyre, 1819). His daughter Frances was married to Gabriele Rossetti. Voltaire's Preface is in English here, but the text including the notes is entirely in French.

cat40a. NY: Scribner's, 1884. First edition. Gray pictorial cloth, brown cloth spine; front cover designed and lettered in black & gilt, spine lettered in brown on a gilt panel. Green patterned end papers. Rough repair to inner front hinge, a few minor marks to cloth, but a clean and bright very good copy for the most part. Pasted into this copy are six clipped newspaper bits about Stockton, several mentioning this book. Four are pasted to the second leaf, and two on the verso of the contents page. In addition, a prior owner has copied out two lengthy reviews on the second blank (in pen) and the upper half-title leaf (in pencil). Though not called for, this copy has an engraved frontispiece portrait of Stockton, with a facsimile signature beneath, which looks like it has always been there, but which was presumably inserted not long after publication. London: F.V. White, 1905. First English edition. Blue cloth, front cover designed and lettered in red, spine lettered in gilt. Light wear to edges and tips, a bright and attractive copy. The American edition was published by Page in the same year, and was illustrated. The unconventional heroine's scandalous matrimonial adventures are involved with the extensive use of motor cars, and the mystification of the old Duchess. This British edition is quite scarce.

London: Chapman and Hall, 1858.. 8vo. 72pp. Burgundy calf, ruled and designed in gilt. Hinges worn, both covers nearly detached, very good. First published in 1838. Issued anonymously.

Augsburg: au negoce commun de L'Academie Imperiale..., (ca.1750). A perspective view - vue d'optique - engraved by Jean Benoit Winckler, of the Archbishop of Canterbury's residence in London on the Thames. Titled: "Collection des Prospects" and with the title at the head (LE PALAIS DE L'ARCHEVEQUE DE CANTERBERRI A LONDRES) printed inversely. Size: 43 X 32 cm. An engraving with contemporary hand-coloring. Some old stains to rear, some wrinkling, but in very good condition, the colors bright and attractive. This would have been viewed using an optical diagonal machine, an apparatus which used a double convex lens and mirror arrangement to produce an illusion of recession or distance.

[np/nd: The author, 1970s?]. 8.5 x 11 inch sheets, ringbound in a red leatherette binder, lettered in gilt on the front. Printed on rectos only. Clean, nearly fine condition. This play was first staged in 1947, and has been produced numerous times. This copy was sent by Stavis to an English Professor in Canada, though it is nowhere indicated on it.

Frontispiece and seven inserted plates, and many illustrations within the text. 323pp. Two leaves of ads at the rear. Slightly leaned, a very nice copy otherwise in a slighty worn, very good dust jacket, some very light chipping to the top of the spine. There is a small price reduction sticker on the spine, which is slightly chipped. The first issue was in blue cloth, with the spine lettered in gilt, and the catalogue at the rear dated "625". This collection includes two supernatural stories.
