FIRST EDITION. 8vo. pp. iv, + 45 followed by Elizabeth's 1544 poem reproduced in facsimile (124 pages on hand-made paper). Frontis. portrait of Princess Elizabeth and reproduction of the embroidered cover of the original manuscript. Half-calf, marbled endpapers, with the coat of arms of the Royal Society of Literature stamped in gilt on the front cover. Some heavy foxing to the blanks and spotting to the uncut foredges, a very good copy. Percy Ames was the librarian and Secretary of The Royal Society of Literature and this copy is inscribed by him to Victor Leuliette Esq.

[Prague] Galerie Dila Usti nad Labem 1972, 1972. First edition. Exhibition catalogue for a show of sculptures by Stanislav Hanzik in Prague in 1972. 230x165mm. pp. 28. 14 pp of text and 16 (unpaginated) pp of photographs and 1 page of list of sculptures at the exhibition, final page blank. Text in Czech. Original brown card wrappers with Hanzik's signature printed in red on upper cover, all in excellent condition. Sudek began life as a bookbinder but after losing an arm in WWI, became a photographer and was the great 20th century chronicler of Prague. This exhibition catalogue is, although on the face of it a modest set of photographs of bronze sculptures, demonstrates Sudek's stark, clear cut style.

David Lindsay, 28th Earl of Crawford and 11th Earl of Balcarres (1900-1975), served as chairman of the National Trust from 1945 to 1965, alongside serving as trustee of the Tate and National Galleries, the British Museum, and the National Library of Scotland. Unpaginated, 137 pages of maps (84 maps) and text: pp. 89, 24bl, 48 (including 4 blank pages), 14bl. The maps are beautifully drawn in pen and ink with borders in coloured ink and watercolour. Tan half calf, rebacked and corners repaired, eighteenth-century marbled paper covered boards. Raised bands, burgundy morocco label lettered in gilt "Maps J:R". Some scuffing and staining to the boards. A repaired tear to the first page of text but otherwise in very good condition throughout. The author is unidentified and, possibly, unidentifiable but the main section on England is based on Thomas Badeslade's Chorographia Britannia of 1741 originally intended as a pocket atlas for George I. Berlin: Oswald Arnold 1941, 1941. A portfolio of photographs from the Atelier Manasse in Vienna run by Aderjan and Olga von Wlassics. They were the leading photographers of nude and mildly erotic studies in the 1920s and 1930s. Bound in a beige card cover with blue tasselled string. Some slight creasing and scuffing to the cover. The contents are a two page introduction on the beauty of the female body and its influence on artists. Loosely inserted is a facsimile handwritten letter from Aderjan Wlassics. Eleven of the twelve plates are present but they are in immaculate condition. �

Limited edition, number 41 of 160 (41-200) printed on Velin d'Arches, with the definitive state of the etchings. 4to, 302x242mm. pp. [viii], 2, 128. The etchings are by Brouet of which there are nine reproduced as full-page plates and twenty in the text. Bound in before the half title is a leaf printed with the armorial bookplate of Dr Charles Carpenter initialled W.P.B and dated 1925. The book is bound by Hatchards in maroon half morocco and violet linen. The upper cover has three entwined "C"s in gilt at the foot by the joint and the lower cover has, in the same position, a magpie on a stump lettered "CCC", all in gilt. These all relate to Charles Carpenter for whom the book was bound. Spine has five raised bands, lettered in gilt. Top edge gilt. Slight rubbing to the joints and one of the raised bands is scuffed but overall in very good condition and internally it is fine. Brouet's etchings are beautifully reproduced in this volume. Marbled endpapers. Verso of front free endpaper has book label of Emmanuel Martin. In beautiful condition throughout, this is regarded as "one of the most distinguished miniature books of the early nineteenth century".

Full calf, spine lettered in gilt, all edges marbled. Slight rubbing to extremities. Internally very good. Overall a smart copy of an interesting local history.

Contemporary calf, rebacked, dark green morocco label to spine, lettered in gilt. Gilt double fillet and blind tooling to borders of covers. Rubbing and wear to corners and edges of covers. Some damp-staining internally with but overall a very good copy. A contemporary owner has inscribed four pages of excerpts from a review notice in the Monthly Review (volume 13, dated 1755). There are some additional notes in the same hand. This book was originally issued (also in 1755) as "Memoirs of Several Ladies of Great Britain" and both title pages are present. It is hard to think of a book where the main title and the sub-titles appear to have so little to connect them. Anyone picking up this book hoping for some good biographical yarns will be disappointed. Bright blue cloth with white lettering on spine. Illustrated dust jacket, cream with black lettering. A fine copy. Bookplate of Denis Thomas on front paste-down. Thomas was an art critic who was a friend of Boyd. On the title page is written in pencil "A present from Arthur Boyd, August 1989". This appears to have been written by Thomas. Included with the book is loose original MS of 'Merric Boyd: A centenary monograph' edited for publication by Denis Thomas.

Unpaginated but each issue is twelve pages and with a single leaf supplement with a full page nude. Each has a short one page introductory text on some aspect of nude photography ("Le Moral et la Physique", "Modes esthetiques", "Du bon gout") followed by a series of black and white photographs illustrating the theme. The eighteen issues are bound together in grey-green paper wrappers decorated in gold and lettered in dark blue. Bound in are two leaves of advertisements for risque publications, a preface by Vignola and a remarkably detailed index which allows the reader to search models by age, nationality, style and pose. Both covers with richly tooled borders framing a further central border with ornate cornerpieces inside which is a lozenge formed of drawer-handle tooling and leaf motifs and small circles. Spine with five raised bands, compartments decorated in gilt with fleurons. Marbled endpapers, all edges gilt and gauffered. Brass clasps. Corners bumped and bottom edges worn and some small wormholes on upper cover, otherwise in very good condition given that this missal was clearly used daily at the altar. Original and rare cream coloured illustrated dust jacket lettered in red. Very slight chipping to the dust jacket but overall in very good condition. The book itself is in fine condition throughout and the plates are superb. This is number 30 of 32 in a series published by The Studio highlighting the work of etchers from Rembrandt to the 20th century. Brangwyn was an enormously inventive and productive artist, working across a vast range of media. Although largely self taught, he did have some training with William Morris. The etchings selected here show Brangwyn's humanity as an artist, his understanding of darkness and suffering captured with a fluid beauty of line and shade.

Who could resist the title for this collection of 'artistic' nudes - photographed by three of the most prominent names in the business. Roye (Horace Narbeth Roye) being well known for his glamour work with the likes of Phyllis Dixey.
