New York: Viking Press, 1967 Bemelmans (1898-1962) was a German American author who wrote over 25 novels between 1934 and 1962. He is best remembered for this book and the five Madeline books to follow. Madeline was originally published in 1939 and was eventually reissued in 1960 by Viking. The sale volume is the 36th printing of the New Viking edition; the copyright page mentions the renewal of the copyright by Bemelmans in 1967 so this copy was printed in 1967 or after. Illustrated plastic cover, approximately 50 pages; 12 inches by 9 inches. Binding tight and square, clean and bright with no flaws. Unclipped dust jacket ($15.00) has a small repaired tear at bottom of spine but no other problems.
