Original black/brown cloth, gilt vignette of man, sled and dogs to front cover. The account of the second unsuccessful attempt by Peary, in 1906, to reach the North Pole. He was forced to turn back 175 miles from his destination. He passed Ellesmere Land to Cape Sheridan and the Arctic Basin, returning along the coast of Greenland.
