Travel narrative by Thomas Boteler, of the survey expedition of HMS Barracouta and Leven as they survey the East African coast, and the River Gambia. Upon their return, they had surveyed 30,000 nautical mailes of coast, prepared 83 charts, and lost half their crew to tropical diseases. With four plates and few text illustrations. Wear to the joints, rubbing to the boards, surface loss to the edges of the boards, and spots of surface loss and creasing to the spine, especially one spot affecting the titling of Vol. II. Hinges feel fragile, though appear to be holding and are not cracked at the time of description. Half leather over marbled paper boards, with gilt lettering and designs along the spine. Good binding.

Sharp in his home, and the subsequent hanging of Jeroboam O. Beauchamp for the crime (and the suicide of his wife). (Krick 396). Very Good binding.

New York and Washington: The Neale Publishing Company, 1910. First Edition. Hard Cover. Good binding. 8vo. (8 1/4" x 5 3/8"); in the publisher's mauve cloth ruled in blind at the perimeter of the upper board, and titled in gilt, an ex-library copy deaccessioned from Southern Methodist University and has the usual marks; there is a previous owner name ("Oregon Waite" (!)). The rear hinge appears to have been reinforced with japanese tissue.~~Krick opines that this is "[A] Texas classic of considerable scarcity. It is considered the best source on the Chichuahua Trail ... There is some material on the Civil War and Reconstruction."~~ (Krick 441). Good binding.
