Description:
[London: Edwin Brett, c.1899]. Plain red cloth, quite soiled, wear to edges. 251pp., publisher's ads on pg. 252. This is the 16 parts bound together, each part with a full-page woodcut cover illustration. The covers are numbered 1 through 16, and have another numbering system at the spine, numbering them from 29 through 44 in the Nimble Series. A few folded page corners, some marginal stains, generally very good. A truly outlandish tale, much of it in dialect. The ads on the final page are for Next Week's Number: "Ned Nimble Amongst The Pirates"; also an ad for this very volume. Summers mentions this title in his Gothic Bibliography (pg. 556), describing it as "Volumes 4 and 5" of the Ned Nimble Series of Stories. Very scarce.

Description:
Germany, c.1550. . A small engraving on laid paper, measuring 52 x 72 mm. One tiny hole in satyrs arm, tape residue and paper repair on reverse. Trimmed right up to or very slightly within plate lines. The image is of a nude female figure (Deianira) sitting on the lap of a satyr. This is not the first state, but is a reverse copy after Sebald Beham, with the female figure at left, facing right. The tablet in the upper right corner is without the monogram; there is no scenery behind. See Pauli 110b, who refers to it as a "Gegenseitige Kopie". The British Museum has another variant (their number: 1850,0612.266) which is interesting to compare. Sebald, who may have trained under Durer, was one of a group who are referred to as the Northern Renaissance Little Masters, so named because of their practice of producing exquisite small-scale engravings. This image is an uncommon one.

Description:
NY: Liebler & Maass Lith. Co., c.1910. A large color lithograph of two young boys. One boy consoles the other, who carries an armload of unsold newspapers. The image was used by the New York Tribune on an advertising poster with the caption: "Never Mind Chimmie, Termorrer Yer Sells DE TRIBUNE And Yer Don't Get Stuck, See!". Matted & framed, with glass. This poster image measures about 20 x 28 inches, in a frame measuring 23.5 x 31 inches. The printer's imprint is at the lower right. The artist is unknown, the signature (possibly "Del") is at the lower left. This image is copied from the popular painting by Marie (Mizzi) Wunsch (1862-1898), who was a Viennese genre painter. The image and its caption were used to advertize a number of different newspapers in the late 19th century. Information on this print is from the Museum of the City of New York. A scarce poster.
