Orig. pub. New York 1865. Reprinted 1973. Print on Demand Edition 2021. (ii), (XXVI), 86 pp. David Fanning was the most notorious and successful of the Loyalist partisan leaders in the Southern colonies. Born in Amelia County, Virginia, he grew up in Johnston County, North Carolina. In 1764 he and his older sister were orphaned and bound to guardians. By 1773 he had journeyed to South Carolina and settled on Raeburn's Creek where he farmed and traded with the Indians. At the beginning of the Revolution, Fanning was an officer in a local militia unit in the South Carolina upcountry. In 1775, that region leaned in favor of the Loyalists and Fanning joined that effort. When hostilities began, the South Carolina Whigs with support from North Carolina defeated the Loyalists in the "Snow Campaign" of December 1775. Shortly after, Fanning was captured and this would be the first of fourteen times he was captured over the next three years. In 1779, he was granted a conditional pardon from South Carolina…

Description:
Orig. pub. Washington 1871. Reprinted 1974, 1999, 2003. Print on Demand Edition 2014. 361 pp., new index Mrs. Agnes Paschal, one of the last surviving Revolutionary pensioners, died in 1869 in her ninety-fourth year. Written by her son, this memoir tells her story as she moved from her childhood home in North Carolina to the Cherokee frontier of middle Georgia near Lexington and then lived out the last days of her life in Auraria and Dahlonega during their gold-mining days. Although designed primarily as a tribute to a mother, it is a rare document of the times, and gives a fascinating picture of social, religious, political, and economic life over most of a century. This reprint adds a new index prepared especially for this edition.

Orig. pub. Chattanooga and Bristol 1918-1933. Reprinted 1974. Print on Demand Edition 2012. Six volumes, 2,162 pp., illus. Available by individual volume. Begun in 1918 and not completed until 1933, Notable Southern Families is a collection of family histories touching upon many thousands of people of English, Scotch-Irish, and Huguenot stock, the three major groups of settlers in the Southern states, who emigrated first into Virginia, North and South Carolina, and Tennessee and then throughout the South. In almost every instance family lines begin with the earliest settlers in America and are brought down to the dates of publication. The compilers developed the lines after careful consideration of hundreds of histories, court records, family documents, family Bibles, and family authorities.
