First edition, hardcover, 1879, Washington. Large heavy book has been professionally recased using original boards and spine, new endpapers. Paginates complete with all images and maps (13 European, 8 Inuit). Large folding map in rear pocket backed with linen, two panels with marbled paper over linen. Frontis portrait is heavy brittle stock and looks to have been reattached. Excellent interior with no ownership markings, no foxing, all images bright. Binding is sound. Boards show moderate patina, stains, etc but gilt remains bright. Old spine laid down over matching cloth looks rough but is not fragile. Arctic Biblio 6486. Please see images of the book you will receive. Notes: Hall did not survive his 3rd voyage so Nourse sorted through Hall's voluminous notes and artifacts to produce this report. Contains some high quality images on plates and is packed with interesting images embedded in text.

Fine condition. Purchased new by me. Has mild general shelf wear consistent with age. No interior markings or condition issues of any type. A comprehensive listing of Native American resources and facts (like the acreage and population of each tribal reservation; radio programs; schools and much much more). 1899, second edition, hardcover. Volume is fair to good condition. Original boards show wear especially to corners. Complete with all pages and plates. Book has been used but has no interior writing or markings. Binding has cracks at gutters but still holding together well and does not require repair. Foxing mostly seen on pages at front and back. Book was written for non-medical readers and as such is not overly technical and contains numerous clarifying illustrations. Preceded by the 1897 edition. Original uncut 1865 New York Tribune newspaper in very good condition. Some minor stains around the edges and at folds. This is 8 pages (4 leaves) but completely uncut so it is a single sheet as printed. Contains much Civil War news and an article on the 13th Amendment. Feel free to inquire. Condition is Good: Boards show moderate wear, front endpapers have prior owner's name, endpapers front and back are heavily toned with some stains. Water stains to top and bottom edges but these stains do not appear on the pages. A few old corner creases. The remainder of the interior is very clean. In regards to the edition and printing: this is the first US hardcover edition but I don't think this is a first printing. I have scanned the relevant pages so you can decide for yourself. No interior writing, marks, folds or vandalism. Binding is somewhat cocked. Front hinge is starting but should do fine with normal use. Maps are tissue paper with small tears at top of hinge not affecting maps in any way. Has cool but incomprehensible Icelandic chart of the world.
