Very Good. 4to. xl + 598 + [16] pp. Two copper engraved plates in preliminaries, one an oval portrait of Harrington, the other of a classical style monument with allegorical statue and cameo portraits of Moses, solon, Confucius, Lycurgus, numa, Brutus, Guglielmus III. Third copper engraved plate regarding "The Manner and Use of the Balloty" depicts men in seventeenth century garb in parliamentary arrangement. Occasional light soilage to pages, but overall clean until final 16 index pages where somewhat grubby but no issue regarding legibility. On these final pages also minor chip and some wear to upper corner. Tight binding. Leather spine label, probably contemporary, with minor chip in a corner. Overall very good.

London: Grant Richards Limited, 1916. First Edition thus. Wraps. Very Good. 8vo. 21by 16 cm. Unpaginated. 20 leaves. Buhrer's line drawings are evocative of Beardsley. A gentle vertical crease to several leaves, including title. Soiling to the wraps.

Geffroy, MM.; Allouard, H.. 636 pp. With 20 color plates, including frontis portrait of Racine. Others of principal characters of plays. 4to, 10.5 by 7 inches, 27 by 18 cm. Included are La Thebaide, Alexandre le Grand, Andromaque, Les Plaideurs, Britannicus, Berenice, Bajazet, Mithridate, Iphigenie en Aulide, Phedre, Esther, Athalie, along with poetry, correspondence, miscellaneous prose wriing. Stamp of Paul Child (husband of Julia Child). Considerable wear to binding. Light soilage scattered. Text block has a stiffness. Marbled free endpapers with minor edge chipping.

Paris: Chez Lefevre, Libraire, 1824. Quarter Morocco. Marbled boards. . Very Good. Chez Ant. Aug. Renouard; Chardon (printer), F. Lignon; Simoret, Etc.. 8vo. All volumes tight and generally clean inside. Minor shelfwear and rubbing to bindings, a little stronger on some of the edges of the five raised bands on the spines, not affecting materially shelf appeal. Each play accompanied with a full page copper engraved plate, measuring 9.5 by 6 inches, and these are by various artists and printers, too numerous to list in the entirety. Typical offsetting of these plates onto facing pages. Some foxing, never disconcerting, on the backs of a few plates and in the plate margins. This is, overall, at least a very good copy, and also a sturdy set that notwithstanding its age, one can very comfortably read from without apprehension.

[4], 80, [4], 68, [13], [12], 99, [13], 14, 8 pp. Contains nine satires, Discours sure Satire, four epistles, Lutrin Poeme Heroique, L'Art Poetique, Traite du Sublime, an Epistre a Monsieur de Guilleragues, a Satire contre le Mariage and Le Geay Nouvelle Allegorique. Lacking prelim blanks before title. Starting upper front hinge. Leather is worn, with staining, veining and general slightly chewed up appearance on spine. Worn edges besides. Scattered soiling within, but mostly clean. Bookplate on FEP. Faint inked notes on title, not disconcerting, and also ancient scrawl on final blank sheet.

Paris: A. Laplace, Sanchez et Cie., 1873. Half Morocco. Good. 4to, 779 pp. With 20 color plates of characters from the plays, as well as portrait of Corneille in frontis. Leather has roughness, with rubbing along joints and rawness in corners. Scattered foxing on text pages, with plates clean.

Paris: Chez Meurant, 1801. First Edition. Full Calf. Good . 4to. 25.5 by 19 cm. viii, 205 pp. plus tables, a good number folding, and supplementary text. With 29 hand-colored engraved plates. Also engraved frontispiece (non-colored). Scarce treatise on agriculture with charming colored plates of machinery and implements, etc. Full calf heavily worn, with splits at all joints partly repaired, but not visually remedied. Spliced and abraded leather. Small hole in a few prelim pages, including frontis which chewed up in one corner. Large dampstain affecting corner of many leaves. But color plates in back are quite bright and well-preserved.

Paris: Didot Jeune, 1796. Full Morocco. Near Fine. Lovely early copy of Vade's "poissard" songs, poems, dialogues, etc. 12mo. 216 pp. With five copper engraved plates, one of which is a frontis portrait of Vade, the other four, street scenes. Vade invented the poissard genre, which reveled in the more vulgar vernacular of literally, the fish-wife, and sought to dignify the lives, joys and trials of more common people. Minor soiling scattered. Light wear to contemporary red morocco.

Paris: Pierre Didot L'Aine, Firmin Didot, 1803 (An XI). Full Calf. Very Good. 24mo. 14 by 8.5 cm. Rubbing along joints, with volume two actual splitting but holding. Scuffs and wear on spines, with considerable wear by some spine extremities. Still an attractive, diminutive set.

Paris: L'Edition d'Art H. Piazza, 1949-1950. Limited Edition. Full Morocco, with slipcase.. Near Fine. No. 2180 of 2200 limitation. Spines sunned. Otherwise, all volumes are clean, tight, lovely. Slipcase has minor shelfwear.

Later state of first American edition, with "help" corrected to "helped" on line 4, p. 257. 8vo. 648 pp. Condition: fraying of green cloth, with some blistering, sunning of spine and joints. Half title tear along hinge. Some light dampstaining, heavy age toning, waviness of leaves. Generally a somewhat rough, but complete, copy.

St. Paul, MN: Brown & Bigelow, 1955. First Edition presumed. Wraps. Very Good. Humorous risque brochure from the Mad Men era of office politics and shenanigans. In its 24 pages of racy photographs and none-too-subtle innuendo, we glimpse an office where nice gams, some show of cleavage and a shapely derrier are all a young woman needs for advancement, where everything is about the perks, the outward displays of rank, and who has time for the actual grind? The brochure's tone is really a print-form version of one of those movie shorts from the forties or fifties in which a jovial, all-knowing narrator has a wisecrack or punchline for each of the succession of small mishaps that relate to a single theme of modern life, and of course the collision of office politics and sex was the raw material for such successful comedic treatments as "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" and not a few Jayne Mansfield or Marilyn Monroe vehicles. Warszawa: Leona Pillati. First Edition. Wraps. Stapled. . Fair. N.d., circa 1920. Oblong, 12 by 31.5 cm. Unpaginated, 8 pp., including title page. (Printing only on the rectos.) Satirizing the endless lines experienced by ordinary folk in Poland after the war. Scarce, with only copy found in the National Library of Poland. Heavy wear along edge, with considerable soiling of the front cover. The paper stock was cheap, and so there is also heavy age toning. The illustrations, though, are unaffected by condition issues.

Canton, Ohio: C. Aultman & Co., 1903 or 1904. String tie. . Fine. A shaped trade promotion trifle -- shaped like Ohio. Slightly oblong, 9 by 10 cm, at tallest and widest. 4 pp., plus wraps. With chromo map of Ohio on front, a buck on the back, and a two page color plate illustration of the Buckeye harvester, drawn by two horses, in the center. Ohio, being the "Mother of Presidents", was proud of its role in Presidential politics even back then, as evidenced by a table of the electoral colleg on the second page -- then 201 votes were needed to carry the day. Ohio's centennial was 1903, but the Presidential election was of course to be in 1904, so it is not clear entirely which year this promotion piece was issued.

1977: Kossuth Konyvkiado. Very Good Plus. Miniature book anthology of poetry from around the world glorifying the October Revolution. All poems are rendered in the original language and Hungarian. Here one will find Bertolt Brecht, Carl Sandburg and Pablo Neruda, along with a slew of Russian poets. Also some Communist-era heroic graphics, true to the period. The book measures 5 by 4 cm, and so it is a true miniature. 140 pp. Minor soiling to the spine and boards. Otherwise clean and tight.

London: Benn Brothers, Limited, 1923. First Limited Edition. Vellum. Fine. No. 6 of 12 signed limited deluxe edition. 155 pp + 69 plates, 9 of which are in color. Standard and pioneering work on subject, here produced with large paper (12 by 9.5 inches), heavy stock paper and full vellum binding. Plates feature some color photographs. Other than typical, but slight, bowing of vellum, and the lightest of soilage, If even that, on rear board, this is a fine copy in its finest incarnation.
