London Grant Richards Ltd 1916, 1916. FIRST SEPARATE AND FIRST ILLUSTRATED EDITION. Small 8vo. With four illustrations by ALBERT BUHRER. This is a slightly revised version of a tale of a girl who learns through her experiences what it means to grow up and how different life seems. Original pictorial brown printed wrappers, some minor foxing and darkening to covers, a very good copy. Rare.

1974. A original painted glass panel depicting Onan designed by Alan Rose for National Lampoon's December 1974 Issue, Vol. 1, No. 57, entitled "The Judeo-Christian Tradition. The Joy of Sects". 483x358mm. The panel, which is painted to look like traditional church stained glass, shows the figure of a man surrounded by a gothic niche which itself is placed inside a pointed arch. Beneath the human figure is the word "Onan" which identifies the man and explains the leery grimace on his face and the white splashes that surround him. In addition to the white, the glass is painted red, green, blue, yellow and mauve and pink. The edge of the pointed arch is painted with a thick black line. The edges of the glass are protected by tape. There is a small amount of scratching to the glass at the bottom resulting in a slight loss of paint but overall it is in very good condition. Photographic card wrappers, protected by a transparent plastic cover. In excellent condition with only a little light shelfwear to the extremities Internally very good. Signed by Kroll on the frontispiece. A nice copy of an important sociological study. Offered with an original vintage print signed by Eric Kroll on the back and from his own collection. Part of the mount is cut out to show the signature. In very good condition. The photograph is reproduced in the book where the model is identified as 'Shelley [who] worked in a nude model studio in Baltimore, Maryland. The studio also offered "nude or semi-nude wrestling or boxing"'. Kroll photographs her in a relaxed, quasi-classical pose, in the manner of a Titian Venus or Ingres's Odalisque. Upper and lower covers with double fillet borders framing corner-pieces combining rococo and baroque designs and an elegant rococo centre-piece. Spine richly decorated and lettered in gilt. All edges gilt. Some slight marking to upper cover, corners lightly worn and a tiny worm hole at the top of the upper joint. Internally very good save for two tiny (and barely visible) worm holes on the inner margin at the gutter and some worming to the bottom margin of the last eleven leaves. Overall an excellent copy in a stylishly restrained rococo binding. Beautifully printed by the Bodoni Press, this edition of Parini's Odes appeared in the same year as the first edition published in Milan. Raised bands, compartments decorated with a single gilt flower motif, second and fourth compartment lettered and numbered in gilt. Some marking to boards and rubbing and wear to extremities. Marbled endpapers. Internally very good but with some foxing. Some pages unopened. Front pastedown of each volume has the armorial bookplate of Charles Bowyer Adderley, Hams Hall, Warwickshire and the label of Hams Hall Library. Charles Adderley was a nineteenth century politician who served in the Cabinets of Lord Derby and Disraeli. He married the eldest daughter of Chandos Leigh who created the great Stoneleigh Library. Perhaps Adderley, who had Hams rebuilt by James Wyatt, was trying to do the same. After Adderley's death, Hams was sold with the new owner dismantling and rebuilding it in the Cotswolds. Full dark green morocco, lettered in gilt to covers and spine. Bumping and chipping to head of spine but otherwise the binding is in very good condition. Internally very good although the front pastedown and the rear free end paper have some damage where labels have been removed and the final leaf has a small hole, not affecting the text. Overall a nice copy.

Venetiis: Apud Nicolaum Pezzana 1758, 1758. 8vo. (180x106mm) pp. [8], 405, [3]. Six engraved plates, one signed M. Heylbrouck and an engraved vignette to title page. Text in Latin and Italian. Contemporary Italian sheep, covers with elaborately tooled gilt borders, fan sprays at the inner corners. Centre of the boards have leaf motifs and two gilt oval frames with green morocco onlays bearing initials "G.P" (upper cover) and "A.P" (lower cover). Flat spine decorated in gilt with leaf motifs, with three green morocco onlays lettered and decorated in gilt. Edges to boards tooled in gilt. All edges gilt and gauffered with a delicate leaf pattern. Attractive green endpapers. In very good condition with one or two small worn spots. Internally excellent with a little foxing in places. Internally near fine with only very slight foxing to some of the early leaves. A very nice copy of this collection of essays by Huxley which includes work on D.H. Lawrence, Christmas, his grandfather T.H.Huxley, and English Snobbery.

London: Printed at C. Hullmandel's Lithographic Establishment 1828, 1828. First edition, one of 150 copies. Large 4to 288x225mm. pp. [10], 147, [1 errata], 4pp adverts. 55 lithographed plates. Original green cloth, red morocco label to spine, lettered in gilt. Corners worn, spine somewhat faded and with tears to head and foot. Stain on lower cover. Internally very good with some slight spotting and foxing in places. The plates are in particularly good condition. The text provides a selective study of various aspects of architecture - "Defensive architecture", "Architecture of the Middle Ages" and "Domestic Architecture of England". The plates, however, are all taken from the great Italian landscape painters (Claude and Poussin are treated as honorary Italians for these purposes) and show how buildings should be placed in the landscape in order to achieve the correct "picturesque" effect. Dunkirk n.p. 23 January 1915. A recently discovered Cubo-futurist drawing by Nevinson. Photographic postcard (105x150mm) showing Nevinson standing in front of a British Red Cross Society ambulance. On the verso Nevinson has inscribed "A ma petite amie Simone du C.R.W.Nevinson". He has also drawn, in pen and ink, a biplane flying over a group of houses and a landscape. The houses and landscape are executed in the Cubist style while the aeroplane, superbly capturing the frantic blur of the propellers, the wings and the tail, is a brilliant, brief essay in Futurism, the politically controversial but aesthetically dynamic art movement which drew its inspiration from the speed, mechanism and violence of the modern world. After leaving the Slade School of Art in 1912, Nevinson moved to Paris where he met Picasso and fell under the influence of Cubism.
