Edges and endpapers foxed, POI in black pen to verso of ffep, else, clean, tight and bright, with Clemence Houseman's engravings especially pleasing. An attractive edition. Very good The author, illustrator and suffragette Clemence Housman (1861-1955) collaborated with her second brother Laurence on a number of book projects, as well as co-founding the Suffrage Atelier.

A pleasing copy of an attractive edition and an apt queer pairing of author and illustrator. VG/VG The first novel in Stacton's triptych on the theme of 'The Sexes'. A year after its publication, the San Francisco-born author (1923-1968) was named one of Time's 10 best US novelists of the past decade. Offsetting to endpapers, price to ffep, spare title label to rear fep. "F. E. Hewitt/ Jan/ 22" to ffep, playbill for Trinity Wesley Guild's Dramatic Reading on Thursday, Feb. 2nd, 1922 tipped in at character page. Extensive stage notes and scoring throughout. A good copy with an interesting past life. While evidently a committed Cromwell, F.E. Hewitt doesn't appear to have moved beyond amateur theatricals.

A pleasing pair of the first two British editions of Rich's important lesbian feminist collection, including 'When We Dead Awaken: Writing as re-vision' (1971), 'Toward a Woman-Centred University' (1973-74) and "It is the Lesbian in Us..." (1976), as well as essays on Jane Eyre and Emily Dickinson. The Virago paperback cased editions were published simultaneously and preceded by the US edition, published a year earlier by W. W. Norton & Company.

A lovely copy of McNair's account of the expedition, leading twenty "ordinary British women," to the north pole. Fine/ near fine Perhaps inscribed to Pete Ford, a member of a Canadian-American expedition that ascended Barbeau Peak via the north ridge in 1998 (a year before McNair published this book)? 1919. TLS dated 11 June 1919 on 'Cadbury Bros Ltd'-headed paper (25.3 x 20.3cm), comprising two paragraphs addressed to Mr E. F. Hill and closing with Laurence John Cadbury's distinctive signature in black pen: "L J Cadbury". Four folds, a trifle soiled, with pen-offsetting to reverse. Else, in excellent condition, probably due to being laid in to Hill's copy of the British Museum's Guide to the Exhibited Manuscripts Part III: Illuminated manuscripts and bindings of manuscripts exhibited in the Grenville Library (London: British Museum, 1923; very good). Polite and practical in tone, the letter mentions a cheque in payment for the illuminated pages to be signed by the King and Queen (who visited Bournville in 1919) and discusses Hill taking students to Selly Manor, about which Cadbury is encouraging. While at Cambridge University he converted to Roman Catholicism and became a supporter of Irish Home Rule. He wrote prolifically and across different forms and styles, and from 1916 to 1926 worked as editor of the Dublin Review.
