Contemporary owner name on the front pastedown. A very good copy. Spear, p. 288. Despite the library markings, this remains a fairly pleasing copy of a very scarce directory.

After the Revolution he settled near Latrobe, Pa., and became an active anti-Federalist. He also helped settle the Whiskey Insurrection of 1794. Later he served in the Pennsylvania Senate from 1799-1803.

Beaumarchais, who wrote the libretti of The Barber of Seville and The Marriage of Figaro, was an avid supporter of the colonists' plight and had been instrumental in obtaining and transporting arms and ammunition to the Americans under the firm name of Roderigue Hortalez & Co.
