The second of Rossellini's "war trilogy" (bracketed by Open City and Germany Year Zero), Paisan is divided into six episodes, each elucidating upon the tenuous relationship between the recently liberated Italians and their American liberators. 117 minutes. Description:
The Saalfield Publishing Co, 1909. Hardcover. Acceptable. Edith A. Root's early-century, over-sized "dollhouse" book with illustrations (furniture, etc.) that can be cut out and mounted in any of nine different rooms. Full-color lithographs comprise an entire house. Root deliberately limited the number of illustrations so that the house could be customized and furnished with illustrations cut out from magazines and other sources. Rare. No copies appear in WorldCat library database at the time of this posting. 30 pp. 15 5/8" x 10". Tight copy with considerable shelf wear. Corners bumped and worn through, as are about half the edges. Hinges pulled away from backing somewhat, not affecting binding integrity. First two leaves show evidence of having been detached and competently reattached. Two small crayon markings noted. Lacks one leaf of illustrations which have been cut out and mounted to one of the rooms. All other illustrations intact. All other rooms empty. A reasonably…

Description:
Houghton Mifflin Co, 1954. Hardcover. Very Good. 9x6x1. Collectible first edition, first printing of Polish born author Alexandra Orme's debut novel, Paris Original, a tale of a poor receptionist at one of the greatest fashion houses in Paris mingling behind the scenes with world class designers. Bound in black cloth with pink lettering to front and spine panels. Pictorial dust jacket included with $3.50 price intact. Per Houghton Mifflin's practice of designating first editions, a date of publication (1954) is stated at the bottom of the title page. Precedes the 1955 UK first edition. Orme's first book, the non-fiction Come's the Comrade, was a huge success and a selection of the Book-of-the-Month Club, but her star soon faded, and Paris Original suffered through a small first printing and even smaller second printing. Thus its scarcity, especially in the original, stunningly fashionesque dust jacket. Includes 10 1/4" x 7" copy of original 1954 Birmingham News review…

The Writer's Guild, 1928. Hardcover. Good. Noted American poet and author Willis Vernon-Cole's tale of crime, mystery and desire in early-century Manhattan, with episodes occurring primarily on Park Avenue. Collectible first and only printing. Cole's last novel and only novel with a contemporary setting. Published by the Writer's Guild of New York, of which he served as president. Inscribed and signed by Vernon-Cole on title page recto as a poem written specifically for Countess de Lagarde thus: "Madame [illegible] de Lagarde | Whose lips are fragrant roses; | Whose eyes transform t[o] lakes | Reflecting in a[n] eternal charm, | The smile which from them breaks, | Whose soul is like a garden | Where perfumed flowers blow | Rich promises of paradise | And streams of pleasure flow. | The palate[sp] of the artist fails; | Poeticizing bards | Are mute to sing your loveliness, | Fair Countess de Lagarde. | Your friends | The Vernon Coles. | "La [illegible] | 2 Decembre…
