General Amherst led an attack on Montreal in 1760 leading to its fall. From "Nuovo Atlante DI Geografia Universale..." published in Milan by Batelli & Fanfani [c. 1821] . 7" x 8-1/4"-17.7 x 20.9 cm. Hand-coloured in outline nice wide margins, a very good impression. A detailed map of the Middle East including Armenia, Khorasan, Candahar, Kerman, Khohistan, Segistan the Caspian Sea and the Perisan Gulf.

The map is after Phillipe Buache's north polar projection. Buache, who worked for his father in law De l'Isle, theorized that the mountain ranges of the world continued as chains under the oceans.

A detailed city plan of the city of Florence with 79 key points including churches, public buildings, piazzas, roads and gardens. Lalande travelled extensively within Italy during 1765-66 and his travels were recorded into 8 volumes.

A plan of Vera-Cruz with legend showing the main church, the Governor's house, several roads,and Jesuit quarters. etc. According to legend the Island off of Vera Cruz "Isle de Sacrifices" was so named because it was where the Spaniards first witnessed human sacrifices.

Published in Peter Pallas' "Voyage à travers l'Empire Russe", , 1788. 7-1/2" x 101/4"- 19 x 26 cm. . Copper engraved map. Light crease lower right corner & lower margin ragged (not visible when matted), else very good. Peter Simon Pallas was a zoologist who at the invitation of Catherine II went to teach at the Academy of Sciences in St. Petersburg. While in Russia he travelled to Siberia to collect natural history specimens. The map shows the fortress at Sol-Iletsk along with waterways and salt flats.

The Great Northern War spanned almost twenty years and pitted Sweden's Charles XII against a coalition group of Russian, Prussian and Danish troops. The Swedes had dominated possessions in Northern Europe but in 1715 their stronghold in northern Germany at Stralsund fell followed by Wismar. Charles was to be killed three years later which removed the last obstacle to peace in the area.
