When Bonnefons' Pancharis appeared it was hailed as the finest verse since Catullus (whose Baccia it is modeled on) - it was so popular that the imitations in French by Durant followed so quickly (and without noting the author) that it was long thought to be authored by Bonnefons as well. A much used copy with notes and underlining throughout in a few early hands. With remarkably detailed manicules added with color and cuffs. A few are smudged, but six are fully intact. An infamous treatise in the form of letters to Lisabetta Griolami D'Ambra which attacks chocolate as a pernicious, life shortening vice. He counseled against adding humorically hot spices (cinnamon, pepper, cloves) to the already hot beverage and, amazingly, allowed that while it might cure consumption, that didn't mean that it was good for you.
