The covers are rubbed, and the spine is faded. The front cover is hanging on by a thread. The rear joint has been reinforced with simple cloth. There is a 6 inch long stain on the rear cover. The underlying boards are exposed along the edges. The edges of the cloth covers are frayed. There are numerous small losses from the cloth of the spine along the edges. The front endsheet has a an abraded patch where a previous owner's name has been rubbed out, along with a couple of notations in pen. The rear hinge is a little weak. The pages are slightly browned. Quentin Roosevelt was the youngest son of Theodore Roosevelt. On July 14, 1918, he was shot down by two German flyers while on active duty in WWI at the age of 20.

Also with some small faint marks, and very lightly soiled. There are numerous small losses from the chipped edges. There are a couple of small open tears along the folds. The top edge has several closed tears. The long closed tear is along the fold of the spine, and measures 2 and 1/2 inches long. John G. Neihardt also wrote Black Elk Speaks.
