Description:
Hutchinson, 'New Authors Limited' series, London, 1950. Book. Good. Hardcover. 1st Edition. First Edition (first printing), appearing here as the eleventh volume of Hutchinsons series debuting assorted authors. 8vo. 205pp. Black boards lettered in white at the spine. Edges spoiled and lightly spotted, a little minor marking to the boards and a small bump to the upper edge. Some unsightly spotting and soiling to the free endpaper and to one or two preliminary and concluding leaves. Former owner name inked to the head of the front free endpaper, alongside a former dealer inkstamp. Some spotting and soiling to occasional margins, and some occasional inked marginal highlights. About a good copy in marked, rubbed, chipped and soiled non-price-clipped dust wrapper, the publisher's laminate lifting or absent at several small areas. The first novel by the noted Jamaican novelist, poet, journalist and broadcaster. Uncommon, albeit not the nicest example..

Harvill, London, 1992. Book. Near Fine. Hardcover. Signed by Author(s). 1st Edition. First Edition (first printing). This copy signed by the author by way of a title-specific bookplate pasted to the title page. 8vo. xxii, 225pp plus a two-page glossary. Red boards lettered in gold at the spine. Illustrated with one map. A trace of very light spotting to the edges, else a fine copy in fine non-price-clipped dust wrapper. A private's-eye-view of the Battle of Meiktila, which largely destroyed the Japanese armies in Central Burma. Fraser, then nineteen years old, served with Nine Section "a small group of hard-bitten and (to modern eyes) possibly eccentric Cumbrian borderers". Curiously uncommon in this first edition state, and here nicely enhanced by the author's full signature..
