William Baxter, a Welsh scholar, published his edition of Horace's works in 1701, and was generally considered to be the best edition of Horace ever published at the time. Johann Matthias Gesner, a German classical scholar, made Baxter's edition the basis of his own, before, in 1788, C. Zeunius incorpoated both of Baxter and Gesner's notes into one volume.
