Description:
Boston: Small, Maynard & Company, ( 1923 ). First Edition. Hardcover. Good. Duodecimo, 610 pages, black cloth, paper label on spine This work introduced the word " Robot " into the global languages. This fantastic melodrama tells the story of the world's repopulation with artificial beings, that is, Robots. "It is a weird drama, a sort of socialistic satire, into which all sorts of symbolic meanings may be read by the spectator possessed of an active an sympathetic imagination." - Burns Mantle. Ironically, also remarkd here is Elmer Rice's play, "The Adding Machine", a company replaces its bookkeeper with an adding machine - with horrifing results.
