Subscribers' limited edition, not numbered by hand as others. John Rae's letters to the Hudson's Bay Company relating the explorer's adventures during his expeditions. 1932. Los Angeles. United Artists. 1932. 13 original 8 x 10 inch single weight glossy silver gelatin print still photographs from the 1932 Lewis Milestone film, based on Somerset Maugham's short story Miss Thompson which appeared in The Trembling of a Leaf (1921), and also John Colton and Clemence Randolph's subsequent play adaptation. The film starred Joan Crawford as a prostitute named Sadie who is temporarily stranded on a Pacific island and Walter Huston as a missionary who is torn between his desire to reform Sadie and his physical attraction to her. The story resolves in a manner faithful to Maugham's story with the missionary's suicide and Sadie's unapologetic return to her depraved lifestyle.

Original purple cloth with gilt fish vignette to front, gilt lettering to spine; pp. x + 155, frontispiece and 7 plates; spine a little dulled, previous owners' signature and inkstamp to front endpapers, internally very clean, very good. First edition. Quaintly printed using the letter 'f' for 's', in the style of the Compleat Angler, this is a discursive collection of angling anecdotes.

Small folio; red cloth-backed grey pictorial boards, illustrated to both cover; pp. [ii], 3-32; every page designed and illustrated in 3 colours by letterpress and photolithography by Anton Josef von Kenner; a very nice copy of a rare book; sometime carefully recased retaining the original cloth spine, with a small, and skilful, restoration to top fore-corner of lower cover, and some wear to the others, inner hinges cracked with some adjacent abrasion to pastedowns, internally generally clean and very sound with some marginal thumbing, a few light marks and spots, and a couple of very short closed tears to lower edge. First edition, an ink inscription, apparently by Anton von Kenner, in German, to the title-page translates as "To the children of the esteemed J.N. Original cloth, illustrated panel mounted on front cover; pp. [vi], 150; highly illustrated with wood-engravings and after photographs; binding a trifle rubbed, apart from a few minor spots internally a very good copy; ownership inscription in blue crayon, dated 1920, on front fly-leaf. First edition. A book for the general public; nevertheless, extremely rare, on the lure of mountains, Russian and far away, their geology, glaciology, formations, peaks and gorges of mountain ranges. The author is most unlikely the Russian revolutionary, bibliophile and founder of the science of bibliopsychology Nikolai Aleksandrovich Rubakin, but a popular writer on ethnography, and Siberia. We were unable to locate any other copy.

Folio, bound in full brown morocco with embossed lettering in white, green, red and yellow to upper board and spine; decorative photographic endpapers; containing numerous black and white photographs, with the text printed on various paper stocks, including one made of hemp; pp. [vii], 6-256, an as-new copy, containing an additional black and white photograph of Marley, signed by Simon, inside a white envelope (opened, loosely inserted); all housed in the original silk-screened publishers wooden box with sliding upper panel; and the publisher's original cardboard box (also numbered 145). First edition of an eye-witness account of the first three months of the second Anglo-Burmese War by the late naval instructor of the H.M.S. Fox who died of cholera, before his book came out. In 1852, Lord Dalhousie sent Commodore George Lambert to Burma to settle some disputed points of the Treaty of Yandabo between the countries. First edition, in the rarely seen publisher's binding. William Beckford had visited Portugal, his favourite European country, in 1794 to 1796. This work is the narrative of a twelve day ramble in Estremadura, where he visited both monasteries, the architecture of which influenced the design of Fonthill Abbey.

Published to celebrate the Queen's 90th birthday, whilst simultaneously acknowledging her becoming the longest reigning monarch since her great-great grandmother Queen Victoria. The Queen herself, in the leadup to the celebrations, had made it clear that she did not want to encourage festivity concerning her tenure, out of deference to her ancestor. It was obvious, therefore, that when the palace became aware of the intent to produce this set, the publication should strike the right tone. A sumptuous facsimile edition comprising the first published edition of the surviving Red Books; Anthony House, Cornwall; Attingham Park, Shropshire and Sheringham Hall, Norfolk, with an explanatory volume by Edward Malins containing recent photographs by Eric de Mare. Repton's drawings are meticulously reproduced in collotype and printed on wove paper to imitate, as closely as possible, the original Whatman stock.

First edition of a great rarity, one of only 1000 copies printed in June 1943, just before the all-decisive Battle of Kursk, and when the German occupied territory was at its largest extent. This book is a bibliography of publications on all regional divisions (republic, krai and oblast), published for only a small inner circle of Soviet and Red Army officials. Not many copies found their destinations and survived the war.
