London: The Folio Society. Near Fine. 1974. Hardcover. A handsome Folio Society edition of William Lithgow's account of his various travels, or "peregrinations." The author (c.1582–c.1645), a Scotsman, roamed all over Europe, North Africa and the Middle East, mostly on foot. He claimed to have travelled 36,000 miles (per Wikipedia), during which he was subjected to much abuse, including torture. Includes woodcut illustrations by an unattributed artist, black & white maps, and antique color maps at endpapers. Edited and introduced by Gilbert Phelps. --- In full green leather-look cloth-covered boards with decorations and titling to cover & spine in gilt and orange. Volume housed in gold paper-covered slipcase. --- A well-preserved copy: tightly-bound, clean and unmarked. Structurally sound slipcase also in excellent shape, though with mild sunning along one end.; Octavo - 8 to 9 in. tall; [7], 8-290, [2] pages .
