According to The Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn Center, [“The Right Hand”] is Solzhenitsyn’s only work, besides Cancer Ward itself, that is based on his own hospital experiences as a cancer patient, revealing the inhumanity, the institutional objectification, and the indifference often suffered by those no longer useful. It was never published in the Soviet Union. "Pravaia kist" ("The Right Hand") and was written "for the drawer"; that is, without the hope of having them appear in print during the author's lifetime. The story appears on pages 25 - 35 of the December 1968 issue (93) of / The New Review. CONDITION: Very good or better in original publisher’s wrappers.
