The unfinished diary is deposited among the Blathwayt records in the Gloucestershire Record Office. It is written in French by P. De. Blainville, tutor to William and John, sons of William Blathwayt of Dyrham Park, Gloucestershire. Their journey into the north of England, when William and John were fifteen and thirteen years old respectively, was doubtless a preliminary to the Grand Tour to follow.
