The text sets the scene as the Ship leaves New York harbor: "You are aboard the Ile de France--a completely rebuilt Ile de France." Described are: the Versailles Suite, the Chantilly Suite, the Cafe de Paris; First Class and Cabin Class dining and smoking rooms; theatre; reading room; gymnasium; tourist class salon, smoking room and bar. A 24-inch centerspread from a Lindner painting shows the Ile de France in full color. 12" x 8.25" Originally launched in 1927, the S.S. Ile de France was converted to a troopship in 1941. In 1947, the ship was returned to France, rebuilt, and launched on her second maiden voyage in 1949. This brochure celebrates the post-war, transatlantic Ile de France.

"At a meeting of the Council of the Seneca Nation of New York Indians held at their council-house on the Allegany Reservation, December 22, 1881," the Council resolved to oppose passage of Senate bill 19 because they saw no way that it would benefit them. The bill in question was "to provide for the allotment of lands to Indians on the various reservations, and to extend the protection of the laws of the States and Territories over the Indians...." 1890. Original photograph. Very Good. The boy is dressed in a frilly white shirt, large bow tie, short pants, long stockings, and leather high-button shoes, his right hand resting on a stool. Oval photograph (3.5" x 2.5") is mounted on heavy card stock (6.75" x 4.75"), printed "Anderson, Necedah, Wis." Written in ink on the verso is "Uncle Newton." The photographer, G.W. Anderson, is listed in the Wisconsin Photographers Index as active in "1905-1906??" We would place this image in the 1890s. Necedah, named by the Chippewa Indians, lies in Juneau County. Settlers began to arrive in the 1840s. The town became an important lumber center, with logs shipped down the Yellow River and into the Wisconsin River to Galena, Illinois.
