First edition of this reprint edition. Originally published by Doubleday, Page in 1926. This was Burnham's first book, detailing his exploits scouting in America and Africa. He is recognized as the Father of the international Scouting movement. Friend of many famous people including Teddy Roosevelt and H. Rider Haggard who may have based his Allan Quatermain fictional hero, at least in part, on Burnham. This copy is inscribed by Burnham's son and daughter-in-law, Rod and Gayle, on the front free endpaper: "To Mr. & Mrs. Douglass Palmer, from Rod & Gayle Burnham. I think you may enjoy this take of my Dad's life - it was largely mixed up with your people & your country." Very good or better with the bottom front corner just worn through.
