London: John William Parker. 1837.. Soft cover. Very Good/New. 20 parts over 20 issues, between May 7th 1836 and April 1st 1837. Each in a full copy of the Saturday Magazine. Clean disbound copies in good condition with minimal age toning. William Govett, 1807-1848, was an assistant surveyor in New South Wales between 1827 and 1834, when he returned to England. He was the first European to travel extensively through the Blue Mountains and Govett's Leap is named after him. After his return to England Govett lived at Tiverton, where he wrote several articles on New South Wales which were published in the Saturday Magazine between 7 May 1836 and 2 September 1837 under the title 'Sketches of New South Wales' They dealt with such topics as the nature of the country he had helped to survey, the habits of the Aboriginals, and life in Sydney. They were illustrated with twelve paintings by Govett (Australian Dictionary of Biography). The pictures are included here as wood engravings.

Description:
Sydney: Collins Bros. printers, About 1930.. Soft cover. Good. 31 x 25cm. The Unrivalled Cricket Scoring Book, made of improved sight-preserving paper. With the amended rules of the game as passed by the Marylebone Cricket Club. With the logo of a map of Australia with "Graphic" printed across it. Probably from the Bodalla Club as they played in all the matches scored between 1931 and 1933. At the rear are the records of two matches played in the Southern Highlands of NSW played by Hill Top against Thirlmere in 1949 and Buxton in 1951. 44 used pages, out of 70, plus a few notes at the rear. Dark green limp cloth. Well traveled and used condition, the binding worn and soiled with the bottom hinge weak.Contents, mostly inscribed in pencil, is clear and legible but there is some fingering and soiling. Overall a decent enough item, allowing for the fact it will have traveled many miles in cricket bags and endured much handling by team members.
