Bindings little bumped at edges. All pages and illustrations in tight and clean order throughout. William Wyamar Vaughan educated at Rugby and then became Headmaster between 1921-1931. Peter Arthur Desmond MacCarthy was educated at Rugby and became a notable expert author and teacher of language, phonetics and pronunciation. An attractive pair of books with an interesting provenance.

Pages lightly browned in clean and bright order throughout. A rare early work on mine surveying.

Gaby Goldscheider was daughter of Phaidon's co-founder Ludwig Goldscheider and a close friend of David and Judy Gascoyne. Also loosely enclosed is a handwritten letter to Gaby from Judy and David in the hand of Judy Gascoyne, together with a photograph of David Gascoyne, Robin Waterfield and Gaby Goldscheider. Printed label a little marked, otherwise in fine order throughout.

Make no mistake, one volume only with broken original binding. A valuable book needing volume 2 and rebinding solution.
