To which are subjoined, the Epistles of Hero to Leander, and Leander to Hero, by a different hand; that of Sappho to Phaon by Pope; and of Dido to Eneas by Dryden.
My copy is NOT FROM A LIBRARY. It is a privately-held, clean as a whistle, no writing, ultra-smooth page edges copy with a (steel?) frontis plate drawn by Henderson
It is still in as near pristine condition for age as it was way back in 1935 when I was given it for winning a place at Grammar School. It was second-hand then as there was and still is an ownership label in Victorian script (Lavens Mathewson) inside… Read More

Description:
Important association copy. See below.Grades FINE even if it were a modern book and this one is a century old with no defects other than not looking bright. Perhaps the best in existence
Author Beede was a judge and a student of the North Dakota Indians and known for his books Sitting Bull-Custer and Heart-in-the-Lodge. This book of poems is not wholly-Indian related but largely so. He asked Melvin R. Gilmore. Curator of North Dakota Historical Museum, to ad a commentary and Gilmore has done so in the form of a 22-page Appendix. This particular copy must have been Gilmore's as he has signed the appendix AND made a manuscript note to Beede's text. On page 22, he adds a note to explain the meaning of the Dakota word 'Hwin" and on page 195 he corrects "than" to "when." It seems reasonable to assume this is the first printing of the first edition and given by Beede to Gilmore
According to the archivist note, to the Aaron McGaffey Beede and Ralph gordon Beede Papers, University of North Dakota, Beede was… Read More

This is the hard-bound copy with dust jacket AND signed by author. "Rob England." The pages are toned but otherwise unmarked and the dust jacket is like new in a protective Brodart. In all respects except one, the DJ is NEW. The exception s that at back is a V tear half an inch long quarter inch wide tapering to zero. The figure of 20 million considers only veterans in the USA and Canada and includes survivors from WWI. The study presents an account of the systems set up by Canada and the U,S, to assist veterans and the costs incured. It includes the Canadian Plan, the G.I. Bill of Rights, disability, land settlement, and education facilities, rights to continuation of interrupted edication.
A thorough study that shows the great disparity between British, Canadian, and U.S. sense of responsibility for their veterans

After he died the Massachusetts Legislature ordered a NEW EDITION to be published with illustrations. (published 1862). There are eight color plates, each perfect and each tissue-protected and containing 95 figires (colored insect illustrations.). There are a further 278 b/w figures. More comprehensive than editions by other publishers The gilt moth in heavily embossed brilliant gilt. you see on the scan is repeated at back.
