Early pencil inscription reading "Ruth Del Dotto" on inside of coated front endpaper. CONDITION: Good, light wear to corners and lower hinge, head and foot of spine chipped, 1.5" split to fabric along upper edge of hinge at lower cover, spine faded, lettering almost illegible, binding tight; very occasional foxing to interior, pencil marginalia on 3 pp., contents generally clean and tight. First edition, later printing. Contains the Midnight Ride of Paul Revere and the first book printing of the Children's Hour.

A fresh example of the fourth installment of Wright's series of sporadically published manifestos, dedicated to the preservation of American democracy and economic autonomy; expressing animus towards fascism, communism, and all forms of empire. Wright delivers a blistering Independence Day message summed up as follows: "Let this truth come through: Democracy is far stronger than Fascism or Communism or any other ism if allowed to work. The idea of absolute autonomy of a free man has created a power in this world mightier than anything that can be opposed to it!" He proceeds by laying out a political program designed to usher in the end of plutocracy and empire, the essence of which is the abandonment of consumerism and the reinvigoration of community life. Jackson (1805-1880) was a physician and pioneering geologist and mineralogist who played an important role in the emergent state geological survey movement of his day. A handsome brochure promoting the award-winning Tiger, King of Rakes, as the "Perfect Self-Discharging Sulky Rake," with a 3" x 5" engraving of the J. W. Stoddard Farm Machinery factory complex on one panel, a 2" x 3" engraving of a farmer perched on the rake being pulled by a horse on the title panel, two panels of text, and, most strikingly, a full page chromolithograph gracing the verso with Lady Liberty driving a chariot-rake through the sky, pulled by a flying tiger. The latter was printed by Gies & Co., a highly regarded Buffalo lithographer with nearly 75 artisans on staff.
