CONDITION: NEW 2008 Gingerbread House paperback, first paperback edition, no printing given, assumed first. Beautiful color illustrations by Katalin Szegedi. CONTENT: With exquisite artwork and evocative text, this original fable explores the events of Jesus' life, and demonstrates the role of the Virgin Mary as the benevolent agent of God's people. Based on an actual event that occurred during World War II in Poland. It is the evening before the holiday of Purim, and the Nazis have given the ghetto's leaders twenty-four hours to turn over ten Jews to be hanged to "avenge" the deaths of the ten sons of Haman, the villain of the Purim story, which celebrates the triumph of the Jews of Persia over potential genocide some 2,400 years ago. Little, Brown, 1988. 1st American Edition Assumed 1st. Hardcover. New/Very Good. Moira Kemp. CONDITION: UNREAD, but not perfect, 1988 Little, Brown hardcover (blue boards) and dust jacket (in mylar jacket), first US edition, assumed 1st printing. Beautiful color illustrations but mostly B&W illustrations by Moira Kemp. Problem: The DJ shows light edge wear especially at fold. There is light foxing top edges. CONTENT: This collection of tales includes folk tales and legends gathered on Williams-Ellis' travels to many countries in order 'to help children to increase their understanding of countries other than their own.'' The 22 tales are told in a fashion clearly derived from the oral tradition: each could be used effectively for storytelling exactly as written. While a few of the stories are familiar, such as "The Fifty Red Night-Caps'' and "Tom-Tit- Tot,'' most are less well known and will provide a rich source for storytellers. Each tale is…

CONDITION: UNREAD 1992 Crossroad Books paperback, appears to be first paperback edition (1981), but no printing is given. Interesting B&W illustrations (and cover art) by John O'Brien. CONTENT: Here, the charming, mature stories from the internationallly beloved monk are accompanied by original art. Like the parables of Jesus, these tales repeatedly unfold new levels of meaning if we are willing to sit with them. "Theophane's view of God was expansive. It was about God as the center of deep belonging. It was about God as the purveyor of Grace, not judgement. It was about God who celebrated the messy and ordinary and found it sacred. This book is a worthy addition to great devotional and meditative works." " Especially beloved from Tales are the following: "The Pearl of Great Price",…

Hyperion, 1999. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. New/New. Michael McCurdy color illustrations. CONDITION: NEW 1999 Hyperion Books for Young People hardcover(yellow boards) & dust jacket, first edition, first printing. Color illustrations by Michael McCurdy. CONTENT: San Souci skillfully condenses complex work of fiction into its key components. He skims over the drama preceding Tarzan's birth to Lord and Lady Greystoke, victims of a shipboard mutiny, and quickly plunges readers into the eventful circumstances of Tarzan's adoption by a young female ape. This treatment emphasizes Tarzan's success in teaching himself to read, and his use of intelligence along with physical strength, a combination that results in his becoming king of the apes. San Souci's expert pacing and sense for the essential story line give his adaptation an air of completeness. An endnote addresses literary and philosophical underpinnings of the story as well as the author's use of the source material; it may well inspire kids…

Color photos are by Tara Darling and it is simply amazing she got so close to the animals. CONTENT: A book about one of the least darling of all the Earth's creatures. Indeed, this fine book with expressive, revealing photographs is not for any budding zoologists who turn green-at-the-gills at the first sight of blood. The pictures here are unflinchingly accurate, matching the animal's basic characteristics described in the noteworthy text: voracious eating habits, angry temperament, cannibalistic tendencies, and savage sibling rivalries. Subsequent chapters offer clear, witty explanations of the devil's birth, development, fighting ability, eating preferences, nocturnal nature, excellent senses, and…

CONDITION: UNREAD (clean & tight) 2001 Centering Corporation paperback (stapled wraps), revised edition. Color illustrations are by Kristi McClendon. CONTENT: This is a gentle, but informative, book for young children dealing with loss of a loved one - the entire sequence of the actual death to the funeral and burial or cremation. I don't see this book as religious nor do I see it as anti-religious, but as the compassionate science of death with a lesson on observing the feelings and beliefs of those who are grieving also. I found it moving, accurate, and comforting in catering to the questions and feelings of a child. Perhaps you will also.

Color illustrations by Kate Kiesler. CONTENT: This endearing tale is sure to find favor wherever cat stories are in demand. Worshipped as a god with servants to coddle him, a temple cat in ancient Egypt yearns for the freedom to live as a normal feline. So he slips away and travels until he reaches a fisherman's hut by the sea, where he discovers the humble pleasures of a "real" supper, a scratch behind the ears, and the joy of playing with children and being loved by them. If readers have regrets over the abandoned believers, there is no consolation offered, only an illustration on the back cover showing the god's empty pillow. The language is direct and spare but still descriptive, and the layout is consistent (full-page oil paintings opposite pages of text), making this a…

It seems that he still exists in the minds of humanity and uses that as a way to our time. Back in the ninth world (Earth), Loki finds himself sharing the mind of a teenage girl named Jumps, who is a bit of a mess.
