A very good copy in publishers blue cloth with red lettering to the spine. Very good colour illustrated dustwrapper which has a few small creases to the edges and is just a little rubbed. Overall a lovely copy of this scarce edition.

Humphrey Milford/ Oxford University Press. London. 1932. FIRST NICOLL GORDON EDITION. Small 4to. (9.4 x 7 inches). Illustrated with 12 full colour plates, mounted onto the page within a decorative black printed border, colour illustrated endpapers and several black and white drawings throughout the text, all by Gordon Nicoll. A fine birght copy in Publisher's original light blue cloth with dark blue blocking and titles and illustration in silver to the upper board and spine. Top edge silver. Complete with the rare original illustrated dustwrapper which has a couple of tiny chips and is just a little toned to the spine. Housed in the publisher's original colour illustrated card slipcase. An excellent, fine copy, the binding clean and square, the contents clean throughout and without previous owner's inscriptions or stamps. The pictorial slipcase remains firm and intact with a little rubbing to the extremities. An attractive example, uncommon in this complete condition.

George Routledge and Sons. Ltd. London. ND.,c.1883. 8vo. (7.3 x 5 inches). Beautifully illustrated with 8 full page colour printed plates engraved by Dalziel, each with a tissue guard. A very good copy in an attractive early binding of full burgundy calf. Spine with raised bands, each with gilt wavy line decoration. Compartments double ruled and fully decorated in gilt. Double ruled gilt borders to both boards. Marbled endpapers. All edges marbled. Gilt stamped school arms on the front board. The binding is unsigned but is certainly the work of a master bindery. A lovely copy on a fine early leather binding. The book is not dated but a search of Copac shows a copy of this same edition in the Cambridge University Library where they have dated its publication to 1883.:

Finely illustrated with 8 full colour tipped-in plates, 24 full page mono plates, decorative title page and 26 vignettes, some repeated throughout the book. Top edge with original publishers black stain, the others untrimmed. Black endpapers. A fine, clean copy in publishers black cloth. Black and gold printed onlay to the front board. Spine with gilt lettering and small publishers design. The design gilt is rubbed but the lettering is fine and bright. Remains of the rare original illustrated dustwrapper loosely inserted. Most of it present, if torn and a little creased, apart from the front inner flap, so it could be easily restored if required. Housed in the original publishers black paper covered box with colour plate onlaid to the top. The box is rubbed and a bit bumped to the edges but overall in very good condition. Hutchinson & Co. London. 1911. REVISED EDITION. 8vo. (7.8 x 5.4 inches). Illustrated with "forty-eight illustrations almost entirely from photographs specially taken for the work". Some foxing throughout, mostly to the margins, but still a very good, tight and square copy in the publishers green cloth boards with gilt and black lettering and illustrations to the front board and spine. Top edge gilt.

J. Ottmann Litho. Co. New York. No date. Circa 1907. Die-cut Chromolithographic Bear and clothing in original printed envelope. (Bear is 10.5 inches tall, envelope is 11.5 x 8.5 inches). The Bear has a (recently replaced) plain card back stand to keep him upright and the 5 outfits have tabs so can be laid onto the body. The hats have small slits and sit on the head, in between the ears. Each outfit comes with a hat but the Driver's cap is missing. The outfits are; a Dress Suit with vests, tie, pocket square and top hat; a Nautical Suit of blue blazer with gold buttons, stripes, anchors, and white trousers with a cap featuring an eagle; a Baseball Uniform for the NL, National League, with a striped cap; a yellow Bathrobe trimmed in red, striped socks, and a red sleeping cap; and a Driver's Coat with brass buttons, belt, and grey gloves (the cap is missing from this outfit). Publishers blue cloth which is rubbed and bumped to the edges and has a white mark to the front panel but overall a very good copy.

Nattali and Bond. London. No Date.,Circa 1850. THREE VOLUMES. Tall 8vo (10.2 x 6.6 inches). Text and plates taken from the Ninth edition. Complete set of this famous trilogy, with 80 fine hand-coloured, full page, aquatint plates, the colouring still strong and bright, by Thomas Rowlandson. Some minor spots of foxing to a few leaves in each volume but generally clean and bright copies in the scarce original publisher's brown cloth bindings, with gilt lettering and decoration on spines. Decorative blind stamped panels on boards. Original yellow coated endpapers. Previous owners bookplates to front paste downe endpapers. Some rubbing to top and tail of spines and fore-edges, and a couple of the hinges with neatly repaired splits (about 1.5 inches) but generally these are very good examples. Slight uniform fading to spines but overall a very attractive set of this classic work with Rowlandson's humourous plates. Uncommon in the publishers original decorative cloth bindings.:

Previous owners neat 3 line name and date (Juy 1872) on the half title page. A Very good clean copy in recent binding of full red Morocco leather binding. Spine with raised bands, each with vertical gilt ruled lines, the compartments decorated with gilt designs & lettered in gilt. Single gilt ruled border on bevelled edged boards, decorated with floral corner pieces. All edges gilt. Yellow endpapers. Some rubbing to the corners and spine but overall a very good attractive copy of this early edition.

MacGibbon & Kee, London. 1972. FIRST RALPH STEADMAN EDITION. 4to. (12.5 x 8.9 inches). Mono illustrations throughout by Steadman. Original black cloth binding with silver lettering to the spine. A little bumping to the top and bottom of the spine but still a near fine copy in the original illustrated dustwrapper which is price clipped to the bottom of the front inner flap but is otherwise very good indeed.

Inscribed by Steadman on the dedication page in the year of publication, with characteristic flourishes; "Eleanor. Its only paper. Ralph (Steadman that is). 10. 12. 75". Mono illustrations throughout by Steadman. Original black stiff card binding with a mono illustration to the front panel and purple and white lettering. A little bumping to the corners but overall a very good copy.

Full red calf, the spine with five raised bands, each with double rope design in gilt. Compartments ruled and fully decorated in gilt. Dark green morocco title label, gilt. Leaf and rose roll gilt borders on boards. Decorative gilt design on board edges. Decorative blind stamped inner dentelles. Marbled endpapers. All edges marbled. Red silk page marker bound in. Grantham School arms stamped on the front board in gilt. Previous owners neat name stamp to top of the first leaf after title page. Collins. London. 1968. FIRST EDITION. 4to. (10.3 x 7.6 inches). 32pp. Illustrated in colour by the Author. Original colour illustrated boards and in the rare original dustwrapper. Two pages with minor blemishes but overall a bright and clean copy in the original colour printed dustwrapper, which reproduces the board illustrations and lettering. Some minor bumping to the board edges. One small closed tear (less than 1 inch) to the bottom front hinge of the wrapper, which also has some light creasing to the edges but overall this is a superior copy of the notoriously rare book. ---- A better than very good First edition of Judith Kerr's first, and most beloved book. Never out of print and with sales exceeding 5 million copies, it has been animated for television and adapted into a hugely successful stage play. The first edition is rare, especially so in the original dust-jacket.

Ernest Nister. London. No date. 1906. FIRST EDITION. 4to. (11.2 x 9.2 inches). An unusual book featuring 26 pp of verse, printed on one side of thick paper, each illustrated with full colour chromolithographs of anthropomorphised knives, pots and pans, tea kettles, clothes pegs, teaspoons, etc, in fact pretty much anything that you might find in an early twentieth century kitchen. Original thick card boards with full colour illustrations and lettering to the front panel, the rear plain red. Red cloth spine. There is some rubbing to the edges of the boards but overall this is a lovely, near fine copy of this scarce edition. J & F. Hunt- Peeps into Nisterland. All edges marbled. Some rubbing to extremities but still an attractive early bound pair.
