Description:
8vo. xvi, [ii], 1079, [1] pp., plus 14 pages of publisher's advertisements. Original publisher's cloth, worn around the edges and corners as well as edges of spine; interior very good. Ownership inscription of H.L. Willis (?) on the fly-leaf.
First edition, second printing with "Gorgias" spelled correctly on the verso of the third leaf and the publisher's advertisements dated December, 1892. Osler's textbook was the best English work on medicine of its time. It provided a systematized text on internal medicine as well as relevant information from the great advances in the laboratory sciences, particularly bacteriology. The chapters describe specific diseases by systems, a pattern since followed by most textbooks. This book became a standard text for students and practitioners in every country and language in the world.

Description:
Berlin: Akademie der Wissenschaften, 1931. FIRST EDITION. The author's original offprint in the original printed wrappers. First announcement of the Wiener-Hopf equation, or the integral equation for (x). This equation occurs commonly in many applications. In its solution a study of the Fourier transform in the complex plane is necessary. The Fourier transform as a function of a complex variable proved to be very important in Wiener's subsequent research. Wiener's interest in the integral equation led to a second collaboration with Hopf on the investigation of the equations for radiation equilibrium in the stars.
