Description:
Modern Library New York, 1946 This notable Modern Library Giant edition includes the summing up by Judge Woolsey allowing the controversial novel to be published in the USA. The text block is stained at the top, as required for this edition, and it has a few signs of being read. The binding is firm, and has obviously been well protected by the jacket, which is well preserved and itself protected by a mylar sleeve. There is a former owner signature on the front endpaper, which is a minor irritation, so if that kind of thing bothers you don't buy this copy. With one's best forensic hat on it is obvious that in some early passages some annotations have been made in pencil. It is equally obvious that another somebody has erased these offending marks. I look on these pale ghosts as marks of experience rather than serious abuse. This is not an ex library copy, but it is an OLD copy. 1946 is a long time ago now, and Near Fine takes into consideration the age of the book. So much of this wonderful… Read More

Description:
Blackie & Son London, 1883 This is the Seventh Edition of a fascinating and brilliantly illustrated book. It has a splendid Quuen's Prize presentation bookplate mounted inside dated 1883. There are 270 engravings on wood throughout. The subtitle reads: THE INFINITELY GREAT AND THE INFINITELY LITTLE. This was a science prize. It is a gorgeously bound Victorian presentation, with an elaborate partly gilt pictorial cover. Highly collectable. Near Fine is allowing for the passage of time, but this is firm and lightly used copy of a book most often found in a well used floppy state. Gilt edged text block on all three page edges. Highly collectable.. Hardcover. Near Fine.

Description:
Smith, Elder & Co., London, 1897 VERY SCARCE especially in such a wonderful binding. An important and uncommon Sir Arthur Conan Doyle book, and for many collectors an essential part of their collection. Looking for a replacement to Sherlock Holmes after the author had killed him off in 1894, Doyle wrote this murder mystery in the dying years of the 19th century. Set in Napoleons era, it involves a Frenchman returning to his native land to join the Emperors ranks. Elegantly rebound in navy leather quarter binding, with gold titling to the spine, five raised bands, and hand marbled boards. Modern rebind is by Bristol Bookbinding, and this is an heirloom quality first edition for the serious Conan Doyle collector. It is elegant and beautiful, but most importantly it is utterly durable in this gorgeous binding. Language: eng Language: eng 0.0 Language: eng 0.0 Language: eng 0.0 Language: eng. 1st Edition.. Description:
William Heinemann London, 2017 Tom Hanks has a collection of typewriters. The man can also type. We all know he can act. He is gifted and can be funny and he can make you sad. He has actually held this first edition hardback book and SIGNED it on the title page, in a blue felt tip pen. It has a slightly and deliberately stressed looking rear of the jacket, which you can see in one of my photos. Some people think it is a fault. But it is not a fault. This jacket also has an official 'SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR' sticker on it. I must say that this collection makes you want to meet Tom Hanks. Shake him by the hand. The hand that actually held this book open when he signed it. We've all watched him on screen. And here in these wonderful stories we catch another side to his great talent.. New English Library, 1966 This has a neat owner name and an initial, but the physical book itself is in fine shape. Tight binding, no loose pages (many of these books fell to pieces). First Edition thus - it was famously published by the Olympia Press in Paris because it was banned elsewhere, and this edition follows the green livery of that original issue. Gorgeous decadent Beardsley prose and drawings; this was his version of the story of Tannhauser, and the manuscript was worked over for two years and left incomplete at Beardsley's death in 1898.. 1st Edition..
