The John Day Company, 1928. First Edition. Hardcover. Good/Good. Slipcase has paste-downs on three sides, all of the seams are worn, three seams are splitting, the paste-downs are tanned, there is a pen name on one panel. The dust jacket has tears on each corner and on the edges, there is tanning on the spine, big chip at the head of the spine. The green cloth has gold and black decoration on the front and spine, the spine is darkened and the head of the spine is soiled and crimped. There is a bookplate on the inside front cover. The first four illustrations have been hand-colored, unofficially I believe, but they are expert.

The board is scuffed and worn. The spines are scuffed, the heads/tails have a few chips, there are some black scuffs on the surface. Bookplates on the inside cover of each volume, light foxing throughout. The first three volumes were written by Decamps and have engravings in the books, the second two volumes were written by D'Argenville and just have frontis engravings. French language.

This collection is not colored. There is occasional foxing, the tissue protectors are tanned. The boards are leather and marbled paper. The collection is not dated, my date of 1840 is approximate. The printed area of each plate is 6 7/16 x 4 13/16. The paper is 9 5/8 x 7.
