Description:
[LGBTQ] Valerie Taylor Lesbian Pulps Collection of Six mass market paperbacks, by Velma Nacella Young, writing under the pseudonym "Valerie Taylor." Lesbian pulps emerged in the late 1950s and quickly soared to popularity, as they offered rare examples of representation to the LGBT community. Valerie Taylor was among the most prolific authors in this genre. A mother of three, Taylor's success as a pulp writer coincided with her own coming-out journey. She continued writing novels well into her eighties. Following her public activist work in Chicago, she was nicknamed one of the "Lesbian Grandmothers of America." Collection includes six books: [1] Whisper Their Love. Fawcett Publications: New York, 1957. First edition. 176 pages. Measures 4" x 7.5" inches. The book came as a shock to the conservative market, selling two million copies. The story follows eighteen-year old Joyce's affair with a woman twice her age. Taylor's open discussion of gender, class, rape, abortion and suicide set the book apart.…

Very vintage cover art features two women in the foreground, with a series of illustrated backdrops behind them. Tagline reads: "A provocative story of modern life as she probes the delicate relationship between two attractive young women." Renault was one of few authors writing lesbian fiction at the time while being openly lesbian. She moved to South Africa with her partner Julie Mullard, which allowed her to write about openly gay characters without fearing the censorship of England. Later in life she wrote historical fiction which brought her bigger attention. Author Suzanne Collins cited Renault as a main source of inspiration when she was writing The Hunger Games. Description:
Photo Album of very early motorized Fire Department with 42 silver gelatin photos on 15 pages. The photo album has string bound original black leather covers. This album dates to about 1912, and depicts a fire department in what appears to be a small town. The insignia on their uniforms reads "CCFD." The outfit is fully motorized and firefighters well equipped. This is notable, as many fire engines were still horse-drawn, even in larger cities. The back of one photo notes that the woman pictured is sitting on a Kissel car. Kissel was a prominent automobile manufacturer in the early 20th century, specializing in service vehicles such as the fire trucks in this album. The men are posed next to the charred remains of a structure in several photographs. Their outfit could have been professional or volunteer, though they would have been exceptionally equipped for a volunteer department. One unpasted photo showing three men gathered on a fire truck reads, "This Rig is used for carrying back dirty hose. The…
