Description:
Finland 2005. A Norwegian conceptual artist of singular talent, Vaara was recently awarded the renowned Ars Fennica Prize. Known for his performance art as a man painted white all over, his action is existence, walking around in a neat suit with a briefcase in his hand. The white man embodied many different dimensions and references, but the most fascinating of them was the sculpture tradition. In the exhibition context the white marble or plaster sculpture is a normal image of a human being, but outside the museum precisely the same interpretation becomes abnormal. Vaara has taken the idea of a living sculpture into the museum and also developed a glass-case-doll version of it. When his performances do not involve movement, they become endurance tests, humor is mingled with fakir-like suffering: a body shivering with cold is a living musical instrument, which rattles panes of glass, limbs glued high up on a display window create a decorative structure, like a modern sculpture., English/ Finnish,… Read More

Description:
Arizona. Out since a few months in Scandinavia is Vajas' album "Sacred Stone". Vajas is none other than the new project between the traditional Saami Yoik singer Ánde Somby, violinist Kristin Mellem and Nils Johansen, the latter is better known as one half of the Norwegian duo Bel Canto, originally a trio fronted by Anneli Drecker with the two musicians, Geir Jenssen (later Biosphere) and Nils Johansen. This 11-track album recorded with the traditional musicians Ande Somby and Kristin Mellem is clearly targeted at the world music scene, especially due to the use of Yoik singing but you do discover Johansen trademark synth input for example on the title track “Sacred stone”. Some tracks do escape the world music tag, for example the dark “Burned shamans” brings you in a much more intimate atmosphere. But overall, this is purely targeted at a different market than Bel Canto. , English0, Year, Illust. B/W, Illust. Color, ISBN , Code 6233. CD-Disc, In Pristine Condition, Pages , Size

Description:
Denmark 1991. This is a comprehensive study of the works of the 16th-century Dutch sculptor Johan Gregor van der Schardt, who is most famous for his fine bronze statues, which have classical themes, but who also ventured into other media and styles - painted terracotta busts, alabaster reliefs, grave monuments, altar objects - all showing a great mastery of technique. There is a curiously immediate and modern quality to his work. One can scarcely believe they were created some 400 years ago. , German w/Danish resume, Year1991, Illust. B/W192, Illust. Description:
Denmark 1983. This historical perspective of the Danish goldsmith trade in Varde from 1600-1870 is well-researched and explained. The masters in the 17th and 18th centuries that established themselves in Varde came from outside the area and several of these masters, as well as later ones, are profiled here. The Varde-Masters’ production can be roughly divided into 3 main groups: church silver (chalices, patens, and wafer cases), dinner silver (big jugs to cutlery), and ornaments for clothing (buttons, buckles, and jewelry). Several examples of the exquisite goldworks are catalogued along with designs of the masters’ stamps which are engraved on the works., Danish/ English & German resume, Year1983, Illust.
