Garden City: Doubleday, 1934. First Edition. Cloth. Good. 8vo. Publisher's cloth with pastedowns on spines and covers. This is a lot of first editions of Stribling's Vaiden trilogy. The middle volume, The Store, won the 1933 Pulitzer Prize. All three volumes are in Good condition and lacking their dust jackets. Each has sunning to the spines and some scuffing to the edges. Hinges are tender in all volumes. All were owned by a single collector, whose inscription is on the front free endpaper of each volume. An affordable complete set of first editions of the classic trilogy of Southern literature.

Girard: Haldeman-Julius Company, 1937. Pamphlet. Very good. 8vo. 8.5"x5.5" Staple-bound wraps. 30 pp. with advertisements. Bottom right corner of front cover creased. Tight and clean. This is a reprint of McCabe's critical lecture. Though the wraps are colored maroon, this is considered to be part of Emanuel Haldeman-Julius' "Big Blue Book" series, an offshoot of his more recognized "Little Blue Books." Haldeman-Julius was a prolific socialist publisher, editor, author, and social reformer, best known for his series of inexpensive paperbacks covering intellectual subjects like literature, politics, religion, fine arts, history, and more. There were 2300 unique titles in the series and most are very collectible.

Text block is near fine, with no foxing and only a few dark spots of tanning in margins. Pages are bright and crisp. 7 instances of pencilled underlining or brackets, otherwise the text is completely clean. From the library of noted collector Edward Hailstone, with his leather armorial bookplate inside front cover. "D. of Grafton, 1793" is signed on title page, which was George Henry FitzRoy, the 4th Duke of Grafton. This copy is listed in the "Catalogue of the Interesting Contents of Walton Hall, Near Wakefield; The Property of the Late Edward Hailstone" (Hailstone, 1891, Item #2663), which mentions Grafton's signature. This is a second edition of the foundational text of feminism and the women's rights movement, with a near fine text block and a fascinating provenance. (PMM 242).
