Well researched and documented story of the love affair of Di  Robilant's ancestor Andrea Memmo, one of the last great Venetian statesmen, and the English women Giustiniana Wynne.  The novel, set in 18th century Venice, is based on a trove of letters that were found in the author's home on the Grand Canal by his father.  Using the text of the letters and his understanding of Venetian history, Di Robilant tells the story of this affair and its consequences on both his ancestor and Giustiniana Wynne.  The letters are beautifully written and gives the novel an authenticity unusual for this genre of literature. .

(8 x 5 ¼ inches) 60 pp. Rare pamphlet written a year after the French occupation and the establishment of Bologna as the capital of the short-lived Cisalpine Republic, a confederation of northern Italian cities into an independent political unit. The author focuses his attention on the clergy and the aristocracy and poses hypothetical questions about the rights of the people and responsibilities of the ruling class to create reforms that will bolster the standard of living and political power of agricultural and artisan classes. Not listed in NUC; OCLC cites copies in North America at University of Connecticut and University of Toronto only.

Paper stock browned with age, some foxing and staining; tear near top of margin at printed border without loss, expert tissue repairs. The lyrics of this anonymously printed hymn is attributed to Ludaemilie Elisabeth Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt (1640-72), the author of over 60 hymns and songs. It is the tale of a person who, after atoning for his sins finds Jesus and eternal life. Wo is Jesus mein Verlangen was extremely popular and printed at least "sixty-two times" in Germany but rarely printed in America. The hymn was put to music by Bach in his Cantata 32 Liebster Jesu, mein Verlangen. Not located in OCLC and not cited in either the Library Company Catalogue or the American Antiquarian Society. Paper stock a bit brown with age; final 30 pages and lower board damaged by water.  With faults a legible and useful history of Vernon, Ohio. Valuable compilation of early records for the town of Vernon, Ohio, which was organized March 9, 1825, out of the north half of Sandusky, and was, at this time, six miles square. The population in 1840 was about one thousand. After 1845, Vernon became part of Crawford County and is well watered by the tributaries of the Sandusky River. First edition. In 1767, after nearly a century in Bolivia and Peru, the Jesuits were expelled and many of the brethren returned to Italy. This book by Prat de Saba provides vital information both on the lives of the Jesuits but also of the Moxos Indian Tribe which they converted to Catholicism. It was quickly learned by the Jesuits that the Moxos had a very strong religious culture with a single god and that converting them to Christianity was would take effort but was a real possibility. Rodelli was Mazzuchelli's sometime secretary and collaborator who managed much of his literary output and organized his papers after his death. Very good copy. First and only edition of Peter Montelius, devotional hymn on the divinity of Christ as the Son of God. Written in ten five-line stanzas, the song begins " We sing to you Emmanuel" was faithfully adapted from "Wir singen dir, Immanuel" composed in the 1650's by the Lutheran theologian and hymn written Paul Gerhardt. Some of Gerhardt's hymns were used by J. B. Bach in his chorale cantatas. The printer of this broadside was Peter Montelius, a school teacher, whose parents emigrated to Pennsylvania from Upper Saxony, not far from the home of Paul Gerhart.
