The Clark's ran an ironmonger's shop in the town and Enid Blyton was a regular customer. For many years whenever one of her books was published, Blyton would kindly sign and give a book to Joy, who was a small child at the time. Book is very good and bright. Light marking to cloth. A Pamphlet written by a gendarme, recounting his service to the supervision of English prisoners, in Verdun, between 1803 and 1814. The translator, prisoner himself for 6 years, was a direct witness to humanity, kindness and benevolence of the author. The pamphlet goes in to great detail on clubs, gambling, theatre, police, races, escapes etc.The original paper pamphlet is average with light foxing /age toning to pages. Complete 14 pages. The Most Honourable Order of the Bath is a British order of chivalry founded by King George I on 18 May 1725. The name derives from an elaborate medieval ceremony for preparing a candidate to receive his knighthood, of which ritual bathing (as a symbol of purification) was an element. While not all knights went through such an elaborate ceremony, knights so created were known as 'knights of the Bath', and likely from the upper classes to begin with.
