The gray/green wraps have slight wear at the edges, with a tiny tear at the bottom of the front cover where it joins the spine. The spine is creased, but due to the binding glue. The creases were in all likelihood there when the book was new. A scarce state of one of the most auspicious debuts of post-war American literature.

A very good copy with no dust jacket, a little wear at the edges and corners of the boards, and two ownership signatures (one dated in 1929) on the front endpapers. Laid in is a newspaper clipping about Dobie from 1963. Includes map endpapers, illustrations, and an index; 314 pages. The author's first book, McVicker A1 a(1).

London: John Long; (1913). First Edition . Hardcover. Very good with no dust jacket. Rose colored cloth has loss of color at foredge of front board; spine is lightly sunned. Endpapers are a little darkened; light foxing to interior pages. A novel set among vaudeville performers - no author is identified. The book, which I presume is a novel, appears to be set in Scotland.

Fine in wraps with just a touch of wear to the covers, but appears to be unread. Includes Acknowledgments, Notes, Selected Bibliography, and an Index; 456 numbered pages. Signed by the author (signature only) on the title page.

First printing (publisher's code "B-W" on copyright page, signifying the publication month of February 1922), very good with no dust jacket. Tiny hole in front endpaper; very faint dampstain at top corner of page block. Black cloth with an orange outline of a cityscape on the front board, and orange lettering on the spine and front board. The black cloth is a little worn and faded, but no holes or tears. A few light indentations on the front board. No names or other writing in the book. Fairly scarce in the original publisher's edition.

Dark green cloth with elaborate gilt decorations on spine and front board, and gilt lettering on spine and front board. All page edges are gilt. Just slight wear to the cloth; single name on half title page. Fairly minor spine slant to book. With a Preface by Austin Dobson and illustrations by Hugh Thomson including a full page frontispiece with tissue guard; 305 pages plus six pages of publisher's ads.

London: Elliot Stock, 1885. First Thus . Half-Leather. Facsimile reprint of the 1766 first edition, very good in two volumes. The books have been rebound in 3/4 red leather over red cloth, with ornate gilt decorations on spine. There is a little loss at the heads of the spines. The paper on which these books were printed has become brittle, and a few of the pages have separated near the hinge. All pages are present, with the separated ones laid in. An attractive rebinding.

Spine lettering is a little dulled. Owner's name and date (1916) on half title pae, rear hinge is exposed but still fairly tight. Slightly less than 1" tear in the cloth at the head of the spine. Front endpapers have map showing sites of other Conrad novels; 462 pages.

The jacket has some minor discoloration on the front panel, and small chips at the top and bottom of the spine and corners of the flap fold. There is also one creased, closed tear at the top of each panel. Really a very nice copy of a fragile book (just 43 numbered pages).
