Description:
New York: Albert & Charles Boni, 1927. FIRST EDITION. Presumed first issue binding of blue cloth stamped in gold (there is also a binding of grey cloth with black lettering). Some rubbing to cloth. Spine of book a little darkened. Otherwise very good in a perfect as new (supplied) dust jacket. Author's first novel. Owner signature at top of front free endpaper of Boardman [Mike] Robinson. Inscribed by Eastman on second blank leaf: "To Mike / with my love / Max / Nov. 18, 1927." Eastman's novel based on the life of John Reed. Eastman's acquaintance with both Reed and Robinson dates to his time at The Masses, to which Reed contributed articles and Robinson illustrations. Reed and Robinson had collaborated previously on The War in Eastern Europe [1916]. A fine association copy.
