Inscribed by Eastman on second blank leaf: "To Mike / with my love / Max / Nov. 18, 1927." Eastman's novel based on the life of John Reed. Eastman's acquaintance with both Reed and Robinson dates to his time at The Masses, to which Reed contributed articles and Robinson illustrations. Reed and Robinson had collaborated previously on The War in Eastern Europe [1916]. A fine association copy.

On the same page the book has been inscribed from Yates to Antonio Helu: " For Antonio Helu, with respect and admiration for the dean of detective story writers in the magnificent country of Mexico. (Ud. me ha empresonata tanto come su pais, amigo Antonio. Cordially, Donald Yates, September 10, 1958." The book is in near fine condition but the jacket, although bright and unfaded, has tape ghosts on both front and rear flaps. Helu was a Mexican director and screenwriter
