Description:
Iowa City: University of Iowa Press. Near Fine. 2016. First Edition. Softcover. 1609384237 . A signed, first edition (so indicated by lack of subsequent printings). David N. Wetzel tells the story of Alsatian-born American faith healer Francis Schlatter. The would-be messiah made his way to Colorado in 1892 from Europe and began his ministry of Christian faith healing, no doubt aided by his appearance which was similar to popular depictions of Jesus. After a few years he disappeared. His remains were supposedly found in Mexico, but years later Schlatter began appearing in various American cities, once again as a faith healer. Inscribed and signed by Wetzel on half title to associate David Fridtjof Halaas. --- In blue wraps with colorized photographic portrait of Schlatter to front cover. --- An about-Near Fine copy: well-preserved, tightly-bound and unmarked.; Octavo - 8 to 9 in. tall; xii, (2), 279 pages .
