In contemporary paneled calf, rebacked, retaining original red-morocco title label. Extremities rubbed, hinges cracked, occasional minor foxing. Bookplate of the physician Otto Orren Fisher. Sydenham (1624-1689) made great strides in medical science, and his Observationes Medicae became a standard textbook of medicine for two centuries after his death. The topics in this wide-ranging text include therapies for various fevers, plague, and St. Vitus's Dance (now called Sydenham's chorea). He also promoted laudanum for relief from pain. A translation of Sydenham's "Methodus curandi febres," first published in 1696.

Later, Schuetze traveled from St. Petersburg, across Siberia, to the Lena Delta to distribute rewards from the U.S. Government to those who had helped the survivors.
