Orange cloth lettered black with a WH Smith ex-libris design on upper board (please see image), but there is no internal ex-lib evidence, so is this possibly a slightly trimmed re-bind? Cloth is split at the spine edge on the front board most of the way up, some rubs, internally VG, a scarce book .

William and ARP 1939 1st edition first issue (the second issue was the cheap edition), green cloth, lettered gilt on spine, oxidised but visible, but 'Newnes' at the spine base is almost invisible, clean unfaded cloth, endpapers and a few preliminary pages foxed, pictures on pages 102,133,151,180,213,217,241,252 have been partially, VERY lightly, VERY neatly coloured (please see example image), otherwise a clean, sound VG+ copy of a very scarce first.

First Edition. green cloth, as required, and 1.4" thick at the spine, the true 1st edition of 1942 (a superior production that was issued at 7/6d - and never reprinted in this form! What is often claimed as the "2nd reprint" is actually the first cheap edition, half the thickness with cheaper paper and red cloth issued at 2/6d), nice clean green cloth, bright gilt, inscribed, foxed on text block and preliminary pages, lightly on some page margins, otherwise a VG+ good tight copy.
